While many juniors tread water, Diablo Resources (ASX:DBO) has taken a bold leap forward in its hunt for copper riches in the heart of the American West.
The Perth-based explorer has laid the groundwork for a maiden drill campaign at its Phoenix Copper Project in Utah and Colorado, after delivering a suite of rock sample results that suggest the terrain is far from barren.
Situated along strike from the producing Lisbon Valley Copper Mine, which is credited with more than 740 million pounds of copper resources, the Phoenix Project offers a rare combination of historical prospectivity, minimal modern exploration and a location within a geopolitically stable and mining friendly jurisdiction.
What gives this update its punch is not just the high grades, but the speed with which Diablo has moved since acquiring the asset less than six months ago.
“We have gone from project acquisition to submitting drill permits in under six months, a great result and a testament to the exploration team’s commitment and focus,” said Diablo CEO Lyle Thorne. “The Phoenix Copper Project has now delivered three outstanding Prospects; Philadelphia, Trenton and Fair Dinkum.”
Highlights:
-
Trenton Prospect: Rock samples up to 7.71% copper and 37g/t silver, averaging 2.53% copper with 7 out of 11 samples returning >1% copper.
-
Fair Dinkum Prospect: Rock samples up to 2.76% copper and 92g/t silver, with an average of 1.12% copper 7 of 13 samples above 1% copper.

All prospects lie along strike from Lisbon Valley in a known copper district, yet remain historically underexplored.
The Trenton Prospect, in particular, is emerging as a standout.
Grab samples collected over nearly two kilometres returned strong grades along a 3,000 metre copper anomaly aligned with the East Bounding Fault, a structure thought to be critical in localising mineralisation.
Despite lying just kilometres from historic copper mines and the active Lisbon Valley operations, no previous drilling has been recorded at Trenton.
Likewise, Fair Dinkum sits near the Flying Diamond Fault another fertile structural corridor.
With visible copper minerals in historical drill spoil but no surviving records, the area offers both mystery and opportunity.
If the assays prove as fruitful at depth as they are on surface, Phoenix could emerge as a rare North American growth story in the copper space.
And with copper’s long-term demand outlook bolstered by electrification themes, any early stage discovery could command significant market attention.
Looking ahead, Diablo Resources has already submitted drill permits to the US Bureau of Land Management for the Philadelphia, Trenton and Fair Dinkum Prospects.
Drilling contractor proposals are currently being reviewed, with the company on track to commence its maiden drill program in the third quarter of 2025.
The outcome of this program will be pivotal in confirming the subsurface potential suggested by these promising surface results.
