MTM add rare earth expertise
July 20, 2023MTM Critical Metals have added adept metallurgist, rare earth expert, and senior manager Anthony Hadley to the Board as Non-Executive Director as the Perth-based company moves forward on unlocking the lofty potential of projects across Canada and Australia.
And with 30 years of multi-faceted experience in the industry, MTM will not let technical expertise go wasted, and will also enter into a services contract with Mr Hadley for rare earth work outside of his new position on the board.
Experts with experience in economic rare earth deposits are far scarcer than the elements themselves, and Mr Hadley has extensive work with some of the world’s most prized assets.
Not only has he worked at the world-class light REE Mt Weld mine and Australia’s first heavy REE mine at Browns Range, but he also recently served as Chief Operating Officer of Cheetah Resources, which established itself as North America’s second rare earth miner under his stewardship.
MTM Managing Director Lachlan Reynolds said the company was delighted that Mr Hadley accepted the offer and is looking forward to utilising his metallurgy expertise and development skills as it advances its international assets.
“Optimisation of the metallurgical recovery of rare earth element deposits is of critical importance to their successful development and eventual operation. So, we are very pleased to have someone with Anthony’s extensive technical and management expertise to support the Company’s exploration and development strategy,” Mr Reynolds said.
Rare earth assets
MTM has just relaunched its diamond campaign over the Pomme Rare Earth and Niobium Project in Canada’s Quebec province, and assays are due soon after the first hole struck over 500 metres of visible rare earth mineralisation at a project with raised potential for a major discovery.
And closer to its Perth headquarters, the company has already moved to metallurgy at Pt Kidman following the return of high-grade assays up to 3400ppm TREO from the clay-hosted prospect which is presenting as a large-scale rare earth opportunity.
China remains a dominant power in the sector, and resources in western nations are gaining vital geopolitical importance as the Red Dragon moves on banning exports of the in-demand metals which are increasingly considered to be a matter of national security.
