HyTerra (ASX:HYT) gains gas drill permit for Kansas hydrogen phenomenon
July 10, 2024HyTerra is building momentum after getting the go-ahead for drilling over its Sue Duroche-3 well, one of multiple natural hydrogen and helium prospects lying across its flagship Nemaha acreage in the US state of Kansas.
The gas site was staked about 200 metres away from the Sue Duroche-2 well which was previously reported as up to 92 per cent hydrogen and 3% helium, well above the 0.3% mark considered viable for economic helium extraction.
Several regional wells drilled since the 1980s have shown the occurrence of gases rich in hydrogen, nitrogen, and subsidiary hydrocarbons, with a geochemical study pointing towards a persistent Nebraskan phenomenon of hydrogen production.
The Perth-based energy explorer has accumulated 3450 acres of owned and operated lease holdings geologically touching the Sue Duroche-2 site, and now looks toward launching a maiden campaign on track for starting this financial quarter of 2024.
HyTerra Executive Director Avon McIntyre said the prospect was part of an extensive portfolio of candidates being advanced, and securing the drill permit was a crucial milestone for the company.
“The diversity of geological plays within our 100%-owned-and-operated leases allows us to rank several independent hydrogen and helium prospects for the company’s upcoming exploration program,” he said.
“That means we can drill the highest ranked ones first. Additionally, after an extensive review, we are assessing multiple vendors for drilling and other operational services for the Q3 2024 drilling program.”
Lying nearby more than a third of US nitrogen-hydrogen compound ammonia production and connected to both local and regional infrastructure, Nemaha is already linked to a long list of potential offtakers.
HyTerra also began work in August 2023 on a milestone prospective resource assessment over the fully owned acreage, now being prepared for an October 2024 delivery.
The company managed to claim an early mover advantage into the Kansas hydrogen phenomenon, as one of just a few active companies.
Both Global Warming Solutions (OTCQB:GWSO) and Longhorn Exploration (TSX-V:LEX) are likewise advancing their properties, making for exciting times in the Sunflower State as the US Government looks to accelerate large-scale production.
