West Cobar Metals (ASX:WC1) expands copper footprint with Blind Freddie target

West Cobar Metals (ASX:WC1) expands copper footprint with Blind Freddie target

May 22, 2026 Off By MarketOpen

West Cobar Metals has expanded its Cobar Basin copper exploration footprint following the granting of EL9915, securing approximately 1,090km² of prospective tenure covering approximately 120km strike of prospective Cobar stratigraphy.

The expanded land position contains multiple large-scale gravity and geochemical targets interpreted by the company to be prospective for concealed Cobar-style copper mineralisation, including Blind Freddie and Lilyvale.

The company stated the Cobar West district remains underexplored beneath shallow transported and younger stratigraphic cover, with the Bulla Park deposit lying beneath 60m to 120m of barren cover and exhibiting only subtle surface geochemical expression.

Highlights

  • EL9915 has been granted, expanding West Cobar’s tenure position to approximately 1,090km² covering approximately 120km strike of prospective Cobar stratigraphy.
  • Blind Freddie contains a coherent copper-gold anomaly extending for more than 2.5km along a major interpreted structural corridor spatially associated with a strong gravity feature.
  • Lilyvale is interpreted to contain a gravity anomaly larger and more intense than the geophysical signature associated with Bulla Park.
  • Bulla Park contains an Inferred Mineral Resource of 20Mt @ 0.58% CuEq and remains open for expansion.
  • Gravity surveys, RAB drilling, aircore work and RC drilling programs are planned across priority target areas during FY2026.

Blind Freddie Prospect (EL9915) is described by West Cobar as containing a coherent copper-gold anomaly extending for more than 2.5km along a major interpreted structural corridor spatially associated with a strong gravity feature, which remains partially concealed beneath younger Mulga Downs sediments.

The company stated the target is associated with a major interpreted fault corridor, a pronounced gravity gradient adjacent to a gravity high, and widespread ferruginous alteration.

Historical exploration across the prospect has included soil and rock chip sampling, with West Cobar stating recent work expanded the dataset through sampling of float and lag material, supported by field pXRF results and laboratory assay confirmation.

The prospect is interpreted to be underlain by steeply dipping and folded Winduck Group siltstones, with widespread ferruginisation of siltstone-derived float observed across the area.

In addition to copper, historical and recent sampling identified anomalous gold values of up to 0.27 g/t Au extending for 5km south-southwest of the main copper anomaly.

Planned exploration activities include RAB drilling across zones of strongest surface copper anomalism, RC drilling to test copper mineralisation at depth at Blind Freddie, Lilyvale and Bulla Park, and follow-up geochemical sampling over the 5km gold anomaly south-southwest of Blind Freddie.

At Lilyvale, West Cobar stated the gravity anomaly is interpreted to be larger and more intense than the geophysical signature associated with the company’s Bulla Park copper-antimony-silver deposit, while rock chip and float sampling identified a broad lead anomaly comparable to that at Bulla Park.

The company also reported anomalous copper values from surface rock chip sampling and stated detailed ground gravity surveys are planned over selected target zones to refine the geometry and intensity of gravity highs ahead of drill testing.

West Cobar Managing Director Matt Szwedzicki said,

“The new licences, including EL9915, transform WC1 into a district-scale copper explorer in the Cobar Basin.”

The Bulla Park copper-antimony-silver deposit contains an Inferred Mineral Resource of 20Mt @ 0.58% CuEq, comprising 0.30% Cu, 0.10% Sb and 4.7g/t Ag, and remains open for expansion.

West Cobar stated metallurgical testwork demonstrated recoveries of 94.6% Cu, 84.1% Sb and 82.6% Ag, with the deposit associated with a prominent gravity high interpreted by the company to reflect dense siderite-barite alteration linked to mineralisation.

The company outlined multiple planned workstreams across the Cobar West Project during FY2026, including drill target definition through ground gravity surveys, a RAB / aircore program at Blind Freddie, gravity processing and interpretation at Lilyvale, and RC drilling on priority targets including Lilyvale and Blind Freddie.

West Cobar also stated the Cobar West Project consists of six granted exploration licences, EL8642, EL9195, EL9281, EL9260, EL9912 and EL9915, covering approximately 1,090km².

The release also stated exploration programmes are planned to commence immediately, including target definition and drilling activities across the broader project area.
