Euro Manganese (ASX:EMN) confirms compelling economics for battery manganese plant
August 10, 2023Euro Manganese will accelerate the development of a battery-grade manganese dissolution plant in Quebec, Canada, fuelled by compelling economics.
A scoping study has fallen solidly in favour of the Bécancour Plant, which will produce 48,500 tpa of high-purity manganese products in Canada for the North American electric vehicle market.
Bécancour, Canada, is becoming a leading battery materials hub with the potential to supply 20% of North American HPMSM demand in 2027. Demand for North American HPMSM is expected to surpass 800,000 tpa by 2031.

Battery-Grade manganese
Euro Manganese anticipates an impressive post-tax NPV of C$190 million and a post-tax Internal Rate of Return of 26 per cent.
WSP Canada Inc. will proceed with a feasibility study to clarify Plant design, costs, economics, and customer offtake opportunities.
Meanwhile, agreements are in place for HPEMM feedstock to be processed into battery-grade manganese sulphate with MMC and W8banaki for the Bécancour Project. Production may start by mid-2026, resulting in earlier cash flows.
“Our growth plans to supply the North American lithium-ion battery market with high-purity manganese are advancing,” Euro Manganese President and CEO Dr Matthew James said.
“Completion of the Bécancour Plant Scoping Study, preparing for the Feasibility Study, and signing the MoU with MMC lays the foundations to deliver significant additional value for our stakeholders.
The MoUs can accelerate production and raise the possibility of Bécancour operating as a stand-alone project.
“More importantly, it outlines a potential pathway to bring Company production and cash flow forward by at least a year in advance of our Chvaletice Manganese Project in the Czech Republic,” he said.
