Asian Battery Metals (ASX:AZ9) expands Mongolian copper and nickel hunt with multi-target drill campaign
April 22, 2025 Off By MarketOpenIn the spirit of “go big or go home”, Asian Battery Metals (ASX:AZ9) is expanding its footprint at the Yambat Project in Mongolia — a region that’s already delivered a standout Cu-Ni-PGE discovery at the Oval prospect.
Now, the explorer is doubling down with fresh drill plans across three new targets: Copper Ridge, MS1 and MS2.
Highlights:
-
Regional fieldwork has begun at Yambat, with drilling set to commence this quarter.
-
Copper Ridge will see two diamond drillholes (~400m) targeting copper-gold mineralisation.
-
MS1 and MS2 prospects to be tested for large-scale magmatic copper-nickel systems.
-
Gradient Array IP survey planned at CR Far East to refine further drill targets.
-
Fully funded campaign — a rarity among juniors in today’s tight capital markets.
While the Oval prospect remains the headline act, the company’s latest moves point to a broader ambition: uncovering an entire mineralised corridor with copper, gold, and nickel potential.
“We’re excited to begin testing several large-scale regional target areas across the Yambat Project,” said Asian Battery Metals Managing Director Gan-Ochir Zunduisuren. “This work will help build a pipeline of opportunities that can complement our existing discovery at Oval.”
The CR Far East area has emerged from a combination of magnetic surveys, geochem sampling and satellite spectral analysis — a modern take on target generation.
At MS2, a spotted slate outcrop and strong geophysical signatures hint at a concealed magmatic system, while MS1 stands out due to its buried high-magnetic anomaly, now the focus of a 250m drillhole.
Meanwhile, Copper Ridge continues to intrigue.
A previous scout hole intersected 137.3m of semi-continuous Cu-Au mineralisation, including standout intervals such as 7.0m @ 0.32% Cu and 0.76g/t Au from 10m.
This next round of drilling will test extensions to both the central and southern zones of mineralisation.
In an environment where many juniors are pulling back, AZ9 is pushing forward — with boots on the ground, core on the way, and eyes on a bigger picture.
