Fresh Exploration Results Reinforce Potential for High-Grade Copper-Nickel-PGE System

Asian Battery Metals (ASX:AZ9) has delivered promising news from its Yambat Project in Mongolia’s Gobi-Altai region, confirming additional massive sulphide mineralisation at the North Oval prospect.

This fresh discovery bolsters the project’s potential as a significant source of critical minerals required for the global energy transition.

Major Intercept in Drillhole OVD025
Recent drilling at North Oval has revealed a standout intercept: 3.6 metres of massive sulphide mineralisation, grading an estimated 12% chalcopyrite, 10% pentlandite, and 65% pyrrhotite at 48.2 metres depth.

The intercept lies 500 metres northwest of a previously reported massive sulphide zone, which returned 8.8 metres at 6.08% copper, 3.19% nickel, and 1.63 g/t PGE in Drillhole OVD021.

“This latest result underlines the strength of the Oval Cu-Ni-PGE system,” said Asian Battery Metals Managing Director Gan-Ochir Zunduisuren. “It supports our belief that high-grade zones are present at multiple locations within the magmatic system.”

Strategic Path Forward
The 2024 Phase 2 drilling program has focused on refining the structural understanding of the mineralisation, with significant progress made.

Southern Geoscience Consultants have identified new conductive plates using Down-Hole Electromagnetic (DHEM) surveys, indicating untapped potential to the north-northeast and at depth.

“Our exploration strategy is now shifting to target deeper zones, where we expect to encounter additional high-grade accumulations,” Zunduisuren explained.

Program Highlights

  • Drillhole OVD025 intersected 12.4 metres of disseminated and net-textured sulphide mineralisation, including the massive sulphide zone.
  • Follow-up drilling is underway, guided by recalibrated geophysical data.
  • Assay results for the current program are expected within 4–5 weeks.

Cautious Optimism While Awaiting Assays
The company has underscored the preliminary nature of visual estimates.

“While the visual data is highly encouraging, assays are the ultimate determinant of grade and economic viability,” Zunduisuren noted.

High Hopes for Yambat’s Future
As the Yambat Project gains traction, Asian Battery Metals is positioning itself as a leader in the supply of critical minerals.

The Oval prospect, in particular, stands out as a compelling exploration opportunity within the Central Asian Orogenic Belt, a region known for hosting world-class deposits.

If assays align with expectations, the Yambat Project’s North Oval area could become a defining asset in the company’s portfolio, reinforcing its role in supplying materials essential for clean energy technologies.

Asian Battery Metals’ progress exemplifies the fusion of modern exploration techniques with a forward-looking approach to resource development—a formula that could pay dividends as demand for battery metals continues to surge.
