Sabre (ASX:SBR) snap up prime Pilbara territory

Sabre (ASX:SBR) snap up prime Pilbara territory

August 25, 2023 0 By Tom Duggan

Sabre Resources have more than doubled its Sherlock Bay tenement package and covered a major Andover lithium look-alike target in the Western Australian Pilbara.

The new tenement applications include Andover East, perched 50 kilometres eastward of an Azure Minerals Andover project which recently produced a ridiculous 209.4m @1.42 per cent lithium oxide strike from a similar structural corridor to Sabre’s newly acquired quarry.

Unlike Azure’s Andover pegmatites, Sabre’s new targets, identified by magnetics over Sherlock Bay, lie under cover and have never been previously explored.

And further east, outcropping pegmatites yielding anomalous lithium, caesium, rubidium, and gallium from sampling have been identified across a 140-metre-wide zone.

Sabre Chief Executive Jon Dugdale said the company has now established a very large, 210 square kilometre-plus tenement holding directly to the east and in the same structural-intrusive corridor as an Andover discovery which could be the largest in the nation.

“The new tenement applications include the Andover East targets identified in magnetics imagery that lie under soil cover. Pegmatite outcrops and drillcore intersections of pegmatite in the vicinity of these targets have anomalous lithium as well as other pathfinder elements. This supports the high prospectivity of the Company’s Sherlock Bay tenements for the location of major lithium discoveries,” Mr Dugdale said.

He added that following granting of the new tenement applications, the company can launch its next stage of exploration, including detailed geophysical programs with gravity measurements to prepare for the drill.

“The drilling will test for buried lithium bearing pegmatites within this highly prospective tenement package within
what is now recognised as a world class lithium pegmatite region,” he said.

Sherlock Bay

Sabre’s Pilbara nickel project already stood as the company’s flagship, holding a significant, undeveloped, nickel sulphide deposit with a current 24.6Mt resource containing 99,200t Ni, 21,700t Cu and 5,400t Co.

But the return of highly anomalous lithium-rubidium from pegmatite sampling and discovery of an extensive new sulphide zone next to its $1 billion market cap neighbour at Sherlock Bay has added a new lustre to the project, one Sabre is ready to square its focus on with new targets and expanded territory.

And further to the east at Whim Creek, Anax Metals have surprisingly encountered extensive pegmatite swarms of their own, further establishing a firing new lithium exploration frontier in the top end of Western Australia.
