Noronex (ASX:NRX) strike into thick Kalahari Copper

Noronex (ASX:NRX) strike into thick Kalahari Copper

May 17, 2023 0 By Tom Duggan

Noronex have confirmed a sizable copper system at Witvlei after the first hole of its diamond drill campaign struck a wide intercept of copper from shallow depth in the Namibian end of the Kalahari Copper Belt.

Assays from Hole 23DHDD01 include:

  • 14m @ 1.1 % Cu from 109m including 3m@ 2.0 % Cu; and
  • 7m @ 0.54 % Cu from 44m across a broader intersection of 135m @ 0.33 % Cu from 44m

The initial two-hole diamond program was launched two test parallel mineralised horizons in the Daheim prospect, and the first demonstrated a thick pod of mineralisation after crossing at a right angle of initial wide intercepts.

Mineralisation remains open at depth and to the northeast and southwest, and structural logging of the diamond core is earmarked to further unlock the nature of Kalahari copper.

The massive Kamoa-Kakula deposit discovery in the Democratic Republic of Congo changed the understanding of all sedimentary copper belts around the world, and Noronex see the Kalahari Copper Belt as a new global copper power – all while commodity analysts continue to beat the drum for an impending shortfall.

Noronex is not alone in eyeing off the rich, sand covered copper of the Kalahari, exploration in the belt is at the heart of $2.81 billion market cap Sandfire Resources’ long-term growth strategy and Khoemacau has delivered first concentrate production just last year with an initial targeted production rate of over 60ktpa copper and 2Mozpa silver.

Assays are still pending from below 278m and from hole 23DHDD02, and Noronex plan more drilling as it begins to fully understand the scope of its mineralised zone.
