Maximus’ (ASX:MXR) Goldfields gold kitty shows conventional open-pit ounces near Kambalda
July 3, 2024Maximus Resources’ preliminary metallurgy work has shown its 19,500-ounce open-pit Hilditch gold resource is free milling and amenable to conventional cyanide extraction near Kambalda in Western Australia.
Gold recovery rates between 91.4 per cent and 95.8% by accelerated cyanide leach analysis indicated the non-refractory gold mineralisation as a feature of the resource’s weathered and primary zones, reinforcing its potential for efficient processing.
The Hilditch resource sits on granted mining tenements and has several toll-treating options nearby in the infrastructure-rich region, with Maximus already completing a flora and fauna survey to prepare for a mining proposal.
The 19,500 ounces sit within more than 335,000oz Maximus has accumulated across its greater Spargoville project, believing the open mineralisation has so far been constrained only by drilling.
Maximus Managing Director Tim Wither said a key aspect to understanding any mineral resource was early metallurgy results, and early tests showed the company’s Hilditch gold was very amenable to the kinds of processing used across the Eastern Goldfields.
“Hilditch represents a potential near-term gold production opportunity for Maximus, located on a granted mining tenement next to the Coolgardie-Esperance Highway, and within a short trucking distance to several regional gold processing plants,” he said.
“The immediate steps for Hilditch will be to complete another round of drilling to bring more of the resource into the higher confidence JORC indicated category.
Drilling is already underway at the company’s Spargoville former gold-mine asset Wattle Dam, with a next round of drilling at Hilditch slated for this month set to include several holes for more metallurgical work to determine gravity recoveries, grind size, and reagent consumption.
After taking stock of the results, Maximus will then assess whether to start a development study and submit a mining proposal.
