Viridis (ASX:VMM) begins halloysite exploration at Smoky
February 27, 2023Viridis Mining and Minerals have a drill rig on site to begin halloysite exploration at its Smoky Project in New South Wales.
The 1,800m aircore program has multiple targets in it’s sights adjacent to the historical halloysite quarry.

The 30-hole critical area investigation will explore strike and down-dip depth of this emerging high tech critical mineral.
Smoky project contains known sequences of halloysite and meta-kaolin, with limited historical exploration demonstrating kaolinite clay rock, halloysite and metakaolin in trenching and diamond drilling.
The Company will also complete pXRF analytical testing, seeking confirmation of kaolin content and subjective quality in drilled material.
Selected samples will be dispatched to suitable laboratories, and results will be provided when available.
The drilling will confirm the mineralisation’s stratigraphy and thickness and enable the collection of samples to ensure the halloysite, mullitite and possible meta-kaolin contents of the dipping units.
Previous historical results further along the same Koogah Formation had recovered significant intersections of kaolinite clay rock.
“We look forward to the completion of the maiden drilling program at Smoky, which contains a known historical halloysite quarry previously mined for granular absorbent and nucleating agent applications,” VMM’s Executive Chairman Agha Shahzad Pervez said.
The Smoky Project
The Smoky Project comprises a single exploration license (EL8944), which covers 6 km2 in the upper Hunter Valley region of New South Wales. The exploration license contains a historic halloysite quarry, potentially covering more than a 3km strike length of a known and unique kaolin‐halloysite bearing sequence.
