Lunnon Metals (ASX:LM8) confirms new gold zones at Defiance West
May 16, 2025 Off By MarketOpenIn a district historically dominated by nickel, Lunnon Metals (ASX:LM8) is making a compelling case for a gold resurgence.
The company’s latest diamond drilling at the Defiance West target within its Kambalda Gold and Nickel Project has struck gold both literally and strategically, confirming two previously unrecognised mineralised structures.
Key Highlights:
-
Assays of 3.4 metres at 3.12 grams per tonne gold, including 1.0 metre at 8.50 grams per tonne in the upper dolerite
-
Deeper intercept of 1.7 metres at 1.97 grams per tonne, including 0.4 metres at 7.02 grams per tonne with visible gold in the Foster Thrust
-
Confirms potential of two previously overlooked gold hosting units
-
Supported by the Western Australian Government’s Exploration Incentive Scheme
Lunnon Metals first co-funded hole under the EIS program has delivered more than promising assays.
It has validated the potential of the Defiance West target and opened up an entirely new gold search space in a camp considered mature by many.
The upper dolerite, once not even recognised as a gold host, returned strong results near surface.
More notably, the deeper Foster Thrust, long considered a structural curiosity rather than a mineralised zone, has now yielded visible gold in fresh drilling.
“It is so pleasing that this first drill hole has not only demonstrated that the area is permissive for gold, but that two of the main objectives have been achieved with significant gold intersections, opening up an exciting new search space,” said Lunnon’s Exploration and Geology Manager, Aaron Wehrle.
This intercept represents the deepest recorded occurrence of gold mineralisation on the Foster Thrust and lies more than 870 metres from the nearest historical hit.
With over 100 metres of shearing and Archaean style alteration logged in core, the potential vertical and strike extent of this system is now a serious exploration focus.
Located in the heart of the St Ives gold camp, one of Australia’s most productive goldfields, Lunnon Metals holds mineral rights across a strategic footprint surrounded by processing infrastructure and major gold discoveries.
The company’s tenements are also in close proximity to Gold Fields’ Invincible deposit, suggesting potential for similar structural repeats.
Next steps include finalising the design for a second EIS hole, incorporating multi-element data and downhole surveying, and potentially targeting the dolerite zone through standalone reverse circulation drilling.
Lunnon may be better known for nickel. But if this early success is anything to go by, its future could be paved with gold.
