Groundwork pays off for DY6 Metals (ASX:DY6) as Central Cameroon emerges as rutile hotspot

A modest auger campaign in central Cameroon is hinting at a much larger geological story, as DY6 Metals (ASX:DY6) confirms the presence of widespread natural rutile across its 2,140 square kilometre Central Rutile Project.

This early stage reconnaissance, spanning five tenements, uncovered rutile nuggets from both alluvial and residual (eluvial) sources, with grains as large as 2 centimetres in diameter visible in hand samples.

While assay results are still pending, the visual evidence has placed DY6 firmly on the map in one of Africa’s emerging mineral sand frontiers.

Key Highlights
• Reconnaissance sampling has confirmed natural rutile across all five tenements
• Soil sampling and larger auger drilling programs set to begin in the September quarter
• Samples are being prepared for laboratory analysis in South Africa, with results expected in August
• Geology is comparable to Sovereign Metals’ Kasiya deposit in Malawi, the world’s largest known primary rutile resource

This marks a significant milestone for a company that is methodically piecing together a potential new rutile district.

The geological model points to a dual system: saprolite-hosted rutile formed through deep weathering of mica schist bedrock, and downstream alluvial reworking that has formed rich placer-style concentrations.

Cliff Fitzhenry, Technical Consultant for DY6 Metals, emphasised the scale and early success of the campaign.

“The Central Rutile project covers a large area, so this initial reconnaissance programme has only just scratched the surface of the potential,” Fitzhenry said.
“We always knew the licences were in the right address. The solid work of the in-country team is already paying dividends.”

The company will now move to a detailed soil program to rapidly identify zones of higher grade heavy mineral content.

These will be followed up with a larger auger drilling campaign targeting mineralised zones across the licence package.

At the same time, reconnaissance work continues at the Douala Basin heavy mineral sands project, located closer to port infrastructure near the city of Douala.

Initial results from that program are also expected in the coming weeks.

The Central Rutile licences border Peak Minerals Minta Project, where exploration has revealed high value mineral assemblages including rutile, zircon and monazite.

If DY6 validates its observations with laboratory assays, it may well establish a substantial footprint in one of the most promising rutile provinces outside of traditional supply centres.

Non-Executive Chairman Dan Smith acknowledged the significance of the early results.

“We are pleased with the initial results from the reconnaissance program at the Central Rutile project and the confirmation of widespread, natural rutile across the licences from both residual and alluvial sources.”

With assays expected in August and further drilling on the horizon, DY6 is building momentum in a market increasingly focused on critical minerals.

Cameroon may yet emerge as a central player in meeting future demand for rutile, and DY6 has staked an early claim.
