Gladiator Resources (ASX:GLA) hit high-grade uranium at Minjingu
January 22, 2024Gladiator Resources has discovered uranium mineralisation up to 269ppm U308 in surface pit samples at its Minjingu Uranium Project in Tanzania.
A promising ground radiometric survey led to 134 pits on a 100x100m grid north and south of the Minjingu Phosphate Mine.
Samples from shallow pits into young lake sediments returned the highest grade in soft sand-clay layers within 4 metres of the surface.
The company plans to test the thickness of the mineralised using an auger drill.
Recently, high-grade trench results have complimented the exploration at its flagship Mkuju uranium project in southern Tanzania and with work at Minjingu.
“Observations made in the pits suggest that mineralisation is hosted by a layer of intercalated sand and clay,” The company said.
“Ground radiometric anomalies are evident in the area and may be related to the uranium observed in pits, which requires further investigation.”
About the Program
In 2007, Montero Mining and Exploration Ltd completed a pitting, trenching, hand-auguring, and rotary air-blast (RAB) drilling program in the area.
The discovery is still early, and further work is required to understand the controls, the potential lateral extent of the layer, and its thickness. Nevertheless, the discovery bodes well for Gladiator Resources Ltd, and it will be interesting to see how the company advances its exploration efforts in the future.
