Forrestania (ASX:FRS) out of the fire at Hydra Lithium
August 24, 2023Forrestania Resources is back on the ground in James Bay and its joint venture has recommenced field work over the Hydra Project in the Quebec end of Canada’s preeminent lithium province.
Forest fires have restricted exploration for the ASX-listers who made their way into James Bay, but fieldwork including reconnaissance and rock sampling of priority target areas can now focus on unaffected sub-projects at Python East and Python West.
Forrestania Managing Director Michael Anderson said the company was obviously pleased to be back on ground after the delays.
“We are grateful to our Joint Venture partner ALX for managing the various logistical challenges created by the delays and now look forward to testing the potential of the Hydra Project, which comprises one of the larger landholdings in this highly prospective jurisdiction,” Mr Anderson said.
Heads of Hydra
Like its namesake, the Hydra project has more than one head to contend with and is comprised of eight sub-projects totalling 293 square kilometres, all overlying or on the margins of highly prospective greenstone belts.
It puts Forrestania in the upper echelon of landholdings in a lithium province which has continued to yield world class discoveries, with the Volta sub-project lying just 20 kilometres eastward of a Corvette Deposit established as the largest pegmatite resource on the continent.
And both Viper and Cobra sub-projects lie close and are hosted in a similar greenstone setting to Q2 Metals’ property where numerous spodumene-bearing outcrops have returned grades as high as 4.37 per cent lithium oxide.

Forward plan
Fieldwork over the Python projects is planned to run into early September, and the joint venture is optimistic it can get back to work soon over its other assets in the western portion of Hydra.
The company also has approvals in place for an imminent follow up at its Forrestania project in Western Australia, where its latest drill results have confirmed shallow spodumene-bearing mineralisation and the signs of a significant discovery at South Iron Cap East.
