White Cliff (ASX:WCN) welcomes Hancock to boardroom table
July 22, 2024White Cliff Minerals has welcomed third-generation mining investor John Hancock as a strategic adviser to the company board.
The 48-year-old is a mining investor and oldest child to leading mining figure, Hancock Prospecting chairwoman Gina Rinehart.
Australian-born Hancock was first exposed to the mining industry in Western Australia’s Pilbara region 40 years ago, under the stewardship of his late grandfather, mining magnate Lang Hancock.
The North American-educated Australian citizen is an investor in early-stage lithium and uranium companies, including Vulcan Energy and Aura Energy.
A wealthy investor in his own right, he is a senior advisor to the US fund Lind Partners, with the fund deploying more than $500 million to back Australian and Canadian small-cap companies during his tenure.
Australian-listed minerals explorer White Cliff said the company was at a pivotal point in its evolution and described Hancock’s appointment as a logical step in its strategy to move three projects forward in Canada and explore two of them.
The company’s managing director Troy Whittaker highlighted the exploration play planned to progress exploration at its Great Bear Lake Uranium Project and Nunavut Coppermine Project in Canada in the coming period.
“Attracting someone of John’s experience and calibre is a great development for White Cliff,” Whittaker said.
“John has an extensive international network and is a successful resources veteran with deep roots within the mining industry.
“I look forward to working with John as we execute this next corporate step and continue to unlock the untapped potential of all of the company’s projects.”
One of Lind’s specialties in investing in mining companies.
White Cliff investor Hancock said he was looking forward to increasing his exposure to copper, as he sought an early-stage investment to complement his lithium and uranium holdings.
“Copper is a vital ingredient to a clean energy transition and as my grandfather said, ‘minerals don’t grow on trees, every year you need to find more’ and today this means searching further and further afield,” Hancock said.
“White Cliff have secured a large holding in an area with historical production and exciting preliminary indications which led me to become an investor and now strategic advisor to the board.
“I, like Troy and the board are looking forward to the upcoming assay results from our maiden campaign where we have visually identified numerous highly prospective areas.”
White Cliff has found iron-oxide-copper-gold, copper, and epithermal mineralisation in early fieldwork over Great Bear Lake, pictured above.
The explorer’s holdings consist of a quartet of large IOCG hydrothermal systems in Canada’s Northwest Territories. It also has investments in Australia.
