Trigg Minerals (ASX:TMG) advances U.S. antimony ambitions with Metso smelter study

In a decisive move towards strengthening Western supply chain independence, Trigg Minerals (ASX:TMG) has released the results of a conceptual study confirming the feasibility of a state-of-the-art antimony smelter in the United States.

Conducted by Metso, the study applies its proven Ausmelt Top Submerged Lance (TSL) technology, already deployed in more than 50 smelters worldwide.

The development positions Trigg as one of the few companies capable of establishing a mine-to-metal antimony supply chain outside China.

Highlights

  • Conceptual smelter study completed by Metso using Ausmelt TSL technology.

  • Planned output of 5,000 tonnes per annum of >99.65% pure antimony ingot and antimony trisulfide.

  • Lower annual electricity demand of 4,000 MWh, with advanced energy recovery.

  • Antimony trisulfide essential for more than 300 types of U.S. munitions.

  • Compact footprint of 20–25 acres suited to Trigg’s Antimony Canyon Project landholding.

  • Accelerated timeline with potential commissioning in two years.

  • Environmental design includes off-gas cleaning, sulphur scrubbing, and water treatment

The proposed facility carries significance beyond production metrics. Antimony remains a critical, non-substitutable element in defence manufacturing, semiconductors, energy storage and flame retardants.

With global supply dominated by China, the establishment of a Western processing capability is both a strategic and geopolitical imperative.

The project’s modular design also allows for rapid expansion, aligning with growing U.S. demand for secure critical minerals supply.

Colonel Steven Power, Project Manager at the U.S. Army’s Maneuver Ammunition Systems, emphasised the strategic importance:

Establishing a fully domestic supply chain of this critical mineral is foundational to keeping America’s war fighters safe.”

Trigg Minerals Managing Director Andre Booyzen highlighted the dual achievement of efficiency and environmental responsibility:

“The Metso Ausmelt concept study confirms that we can build a modern, energy-efficient smelter that meets the highest environmental standards while consuming significantly less electricity than conventional designs. We are proud to be advancing a project that not only secures a critical mineral supply chain but also sets a new benchmark for clean and responsible metals production.”

With the study now complete, Trigg will commence detailed design work at its Antimony Canyon Project in Utah while engaging relevant U.S. authorities, including the newly named Department of War.

The company’s vision of becoming a vertically integrated, conflict-free supplier across both the U.S. and Australia underscores its ambition to anchor the resurgence of antimony production in reliable Western jurisdictions.

The next two years will prove critical as Trigg looks to fast-track construction and deliver one of the few fully Western-controlled antimony supply chains.
