The Lizard King: Why nice???

The Lizard King: Why nice???

November 3, 2023 Off By The Lizard King

The so-called “godfather” of AI says he left Google to warn us of the existential threat of extinction. Still, I’ll believe it when my AI-enhanced Tinder pics include more than half my scaly tail.

It is kinda scary, but I still wish they’d take the leash off the thing for my short-term gratification. I’ll happily take Skynet if it means I can win the last fantasy footy trophy before the end of humanity, and any future alien investigators will know who the champ was.

Maybe he’s just saying it to make other industries jealous that they can’t destroy the world. It’d be a welcome narrative change from the do-gooders’ endlessly harping about improving the world.

This annoying trend has even seeped into the mining biz of late. If I have to sit through one more investor preso with five slides dedicated to the “Energy transformation to make the world a cleaner and greener place to live”, I swear I’ll be throwing up my Scotch fillet at Steves chased by the 5 or 6 free beers I squeeze in over the hour-long course of events.

Kind of like how footy players prefer to say they’re homesick rather than just admitting it’s about the money. Only mouthbreathers demand athletes show loyalty for none in return, but I’d estimate that was about 90 per cent of them on my last trip to the footy, so I can understand why they’d lie.

Miners have their idiots to contend with, but it’s often just taking their money. I wish they’d give a shoutout to the subhumans alongside sophisticated and institutional investors after a cap raise — we deserve recognition, too.

And they might need our meagre contributions to get some drilling going.; There’s certainly a lot of high-minded rhetoric about critical minerals going on, but I’m yet to see much coming in. Albo’s intentions may be honourable, but a couple more billion put on the table still just ain’t gonna cut it, I’m afraid!

Perhaps clearing out some red tape and taxes might help encourage US/Canadian investment!

But old Albo will be in China soon, and maybe they’ll realise we’re better off being friends again with Chinese manufacturing and Aussie rocks and wine greasing the wheels the way we did in the old resources boom days, but I guess ungodly piles of cash tend to soothe most problems.
