In a major win for Maximus Resources (ASX:MXR), the company’s latest drilling campaign at the Lefroy Lithium Project has unveiled high-grade lithium intersections, reinforcing the project’s potential to become a standout asset in Western Australia’s burgeoning battery metals sector.

Key Highlights:

  • Assay results from the maiden drill program at Bird Rock include:
    • 5m at 1.81% Li₂O from 101m, with a high-grade interval of 3m at 2.33% Li₂O.
    • 6m at 1.14% Li₂O from 17m, indicating strong spodumene presence.
  • Kandui prospect continues to deliver, with standout results of 6m at 2.23% Li₂O from 26m, including 4m at 2.88% Li₂O.

Maximus Resources Managing Director, Tim Wither, said the findings highlight the effectiveness of the company’s systematic approach to exploration. “The discovery of spodumene-bearing pegmatites at Bird Rock validates our soil geochemistry strategy and opens up significant opportunities for further discoveries within the Lefroy tenements,” Wither noted.

A Game-Changer for Maximus

Bird Rock’s maiden drill program targeted a previously undetected spodumene-bearing pegmatite.

The vertical nature of the pegmatite, similar to structures observed at the Mt Marion deposit, is a positive indicator.

The prospect remains open at depth, suggesting potential for a larger resource base.

This structural discovery contrasts with the shallow, dipping pegmatites identified at the Kandui prospect, showcasing the diverse mineralisation styles within the Lefroy Project.

“The vertical component of Bird Rock’s pegmatite is a unique finding,” Wither explained. “It not only mirrors the geometry seen at Mt Marion but also reinforces the geological potential of our broader exploration strategy.”

Strategic Partnership Strengthens Exploration

Underpinning Maximus’ exploration efforts is its partnership with the Korea Mine Rehabilitation and Mineral Resources Corporation (KOMIR), a strategic collaboration set to inject USD$3 million into the project.

This funding boost will support further drilling and geophysical surveys, aiming to delineate a resource that could rival established lithium operations in the region.

The recent results from Kandui have further validated the joint venture’s geological model.

The identification of demagnetised zones, typically associated with thicker pegmatite intrusions, has guided successful drilling campaigns.

Notably, the 6m at 2.23% Li₂O intersection, including a high-grade core of 4m at 2.88% Li₂O, signals the presence of a fertile spodumene system.

“With every round of drilling, our understanding of Kandui’s pegmatite system improves,” Wither said. “The latest phase has delivered our best results yet, confirming the fertility of the pegmatites and setting the stage for a comprehensive follow-up drill program.”

Looking Ahead

Maximus is gearing up for an aggressive exploration campaign, with plans for closer-spaced aeromagnetic surveys and additional drilling at both Bird Rock and Kandui.

The focus will be on uncovering the full extent of these promising pegmatite structures and establishing a clear path toward resource definition.

“Our systematic exploration has positioned us well,” Wither added. “We are excited to leverage the expertise of our joint venture partners and advance these prospects towards a significant resource milestone.”

With the backing of a robust exploration strategy and strategic partnership, Maximus Resources is poised to make a strong mark in the lithium space.

As the demand for battery metals accelerates, the Lefroy Lithium Project could become a key player in supplying the critical minerals needed for the green energy transition.
