Manhattan (ASX:MHC) return more high-grade lithium at Big Betty

September 11, 2023 0 By Tom Duggan

It is early days, but a spread of high-grade assays at Manhattan Corporation‘s Big Betty Prospect have added a fourth spodumene-bearing boulder occurrence and more allure to its large Chebogue Lithium Project landholdings in Canada’s Nova Scotia province.

Six samples returned assays greater than two per cent and as high as 3.5 per cent lithium oxide, filling a gap between previously discovered areas and supporting belief that at there are at least three distinct sources of spodumene-bearing pegmatites at the prospect.

Manhattan Country Manager Paul K. Smith said the continued discovery of high-grade spodumene-bearing boulders within Big Betty had suggested large lithium potential within the greater Chebogue project.

“As Manhattan continues to advance its emerging geological structural model for lithium mineralisation it believes that the overall potential for new spodumene-bearing pegmatites can only increase in numbers and size. This region of Nova Scotia is quickly becoming a hotbed of excitement in regard to critical mineral exploration,” Mr Smith said.

Forward plan

The fully owned 1200 square kilometre Chebogue project sits along a strike length exceeding 100 kilometres, and Manhattan will fly a 1417 line-kilometre airborne magnetic survey to assist in finding its first targets for the drill.

Detailed prospecting will now be focused on the BP target and its surrounding licenses, where spodumene-bearing boulders and multiple assays over 2.2 per cent lithium have been uncovered.

Prospecting, soil sampling and initial screening for spodumene flakes will continue in the area, and the first B-Horizon soil sampling program is nearing completion, with 60 per cent of all samples shipped to the lab for assay.

Manhattan is set to become the largest critical mineral exploration landholder in the Nova Scotia region, sitting well-endowed in infrastructure with a focus on gold, tin, and base metals, but remaining largely unexplored for critical resources.

Champlain Mineral Ventures made an early success and brought in a 555,300 tonne @ 1.30% Indicated and 381,000T @ 1.48% Li20 Inferred resource to the area along strike from Chebogue, something Manhattan will look to back up as it plots its maiden campaign.
