Lithium Energy (ASX:LEL) high grade production milestone at Solaroz
January 15, 2024Lithium Energy has produced its first sample of battery-grade lithium carbonate from Solaroz brine at its flagship Solaroz Lithium Brine Project in Argentina.
Solaroz, located next to Arcadium’s Olaroz Lithium Facility in Salar de Olaroz basin, is set to become a significant lithium producer in South America’s “Lithium Triangle” – bringing LEL closer to their goal of becoming a leading lithium carbonate supplier to the battery industry.
Solaroz brine from Drillhole 3 produced a 300-litre sample of lithium-rich brines. The feed grade was 397 mg/L Li, resulting in a 99.5% Li battery-grade sample.
The Company says its result is a major achievement and a step forward in advancing the Solaroz project to production.
“The low Mg/Li ratios and high recoveries indicate the quality of the Solaroz brine, and all the key design criteria required to design an evaporation ponds process for the Solaroz brine have been completed,” the company said.

Evaporation Testwork
In parallel to the work undertaken in the laboratory, the first batch of on-site evaporation tests have been completed with two ponds installed to conduct these tests. The evaporation tests were conducted on Solaroz brine sourced from Drillhole 3 – SOZDD003 (located on the Chico I concession) and collected at a depth of between 514 and 552 metres.
The results from these tests have allowed the Company to receive on-site field data on daily evaporation rates and brine chemistry providing site-based environmental information for the further work required to advance to production.
Post completion of the on-site works, the ponds have been emptied and cleaned and will be refilled to continue further evaporation test work during the coming months to assess the seasonal differences that can be expected on the Olaroz Salar.
