Krakatoa (ASX:KTA) discover King Tamba lithium

Krakatoa (ASX:KTA) discover King Tamba lithium

July 5, 2023 0 By Tom Duggan

Krakatoa Resources’ geochemical sampling program has returned up to 4.3 per cent of high-grade lithium, marking a discovery to add to its King Tamba Specialty Metals Project near Mount Magnet in Western Australia.

Multiple rock chips came in over 2% Li2O, and the program identified an 800-metre mineralised zone enriched in lithium-caesium-rubidium and with elevated tantalum and niobium, remaining open to the south.

Outcropping over 250 metres, the newly identified Wilsons prospect stands ready for imminent drilling. Krakatoa Chief Executive Mark Major said that discovering a high-tenor multielement soil anomaly across multiple sample lines was very encouraging.

“Even more impressive it is supported with a series of six samples from an outcropping pegmatite target area returning Li2O values in excess of 1%, with a peak result of 4.3% Li2O from sample KS04381 at the newly defined Wilsons Prospect,” Mr Major said.

“This prospect sits in line with the soil anomaly and is flanked by them. This area is surprisingly just a few hundred metres south of the historical mine zone. Other areas have also been investigated and we look forward to uncovering more lithium dominated zones to target with drilling,” he added.

Forward plan

Preparations have begun for lithium-focused drill testing on King Tamba, and a programme of works has been submitted — Krakatoa has also started mineralogy and deportment studies to gauge which minerals host the elevated lithium samples as it readies itself for the next exploration stage.

King Tamba has a history of open-pit tantalum production and numerous tin, tantalum and niobium workings. Krakatoa considers the project prospective for all the tantalum, lithium, rubidium, tin, and niobium.

The Perth-based company has already delivered a maiden estimate of 5Mt @ 0.14% Rb2O with a Li2O credit since coming into ownership of the project, and it will continue to collate historical drilling and geochemical file data into its geospatial database to define the pegmatites and spot up new drill targets.
