Kingsland (ASX:KNG) go diamond at Leliyn
August 22, 2023The first return of diamond core assays has shown high grades over big widths at Leliyn for Kingsland Minerals, who look to have a globally significant graphite discovery on its hands in the Northern Territory.
Total Graphitic Carbon assays from two diamond holes returned with top end strikes of 132m @ 8.7 % from 0m and 126m @ 7.6 % from 52m, while an RC hole revealed 41m @ 10.5% from 0m.
Kingsland Managing Director Richard Maddocks said the assays are consistent with recent results and confirm wide and high-grade graphite mineralisation.
“They are important results because they continue to show Leliyn is emerging as a globally-significant graphite discovery with very high grades. These results will form part of the maiden Resource Estimate and the core will be used for more detailed metallurgical test-work,” Mr Maddocks said.
Diamond and RC drilling directed at infill and extending known mineralisation is ongoing, and metallurgy will aim to confirm the Leliyn graphite is suitable for the prized use in lithium-ion batteries.
Growing discovery at Leliyn
It has been an auspicious period for Kingsland since confirming a discovery of graphitic shists up to 100 metres wide over 20 kilometres of strike in its tier-1 Northern Territory location, and assays have continued to reveal high-grades and thick widths – now further bolstered with the diamond drill.
The diamond portion of the campaign was backed by the Resourcing the Territory initiative, and the continued top-end results will all be included in the company’s maiden graphite resource.
All the right signs are emerging that Kingsland can hit the upper end of an expansive 200-250Mt at 8-11 TGC for 16 -27Mt of contained graphite Exploration Target, and there is plenty of meat left on the bone at Leliyn.
The exploration target covers just a quarter of the 20-kilometre-long graphitic schists, and Kingsland is looking to set itself apart with a large Australian resource for a graphite industry in dire need of diversification.
