Impact (ASX:IPT) investigates potential titan at Arkun rare earths in South West
April 19, 2024Impact Minerals drillers are hard at work over a large soil anomaly at a Hyperion prospect it believes can be transformed into a full-sized clay-hosted deposit at its Arkun project in South West Western Australia.
The anomaly named for titan in Greek mythology covers a minimum three-square-kilometre area with averages exceeding the 1000 parts per million total rare earth oxide mark.
Hyperion peak values are 5880ppm while its neodymium and praseodymium ratios average about 20 per cent.
The values are some of the highest TREO-in-soil results to add to the swell as Western Australia rides a rare earth wave.
Impact is taking a closer look at the prospect, with a 40-hole 2000-metre aircore drilling campaign.
Drillers are testing the depth and rare earth content of the weathered zone while taking samples for metallurgical testing, given the depth, thickness, and nature of mineralisation at Hyperion is still unknown.
Heavy rare earth content averaging between 54ppm and 200ppm has encouraged Impact on a quest to discover the sought-after elements close to surface, and geophysical modelling has suggested a hefty volume of shallow rare earth clays.
But the proof of an economic deposit is more about metallurgy than assayed grade, and samples from the drilling campaign could prove pivotal in demonstrating an easily extractable deposit.
There are several other rare earth soil geochemistry anomalies to be tested at Arkun with the Swordfish and Horseshoe prospects next off the rack if extraction characteristics prove viable toward defining a resource.
Impact recently upped its southwest stake to be the bearer of 2900 square kilometres of fully owned territory in a region of WA which has historically received a sliver of the state’s exploration funding.
But there are certainly minerals to be found and developed, and Impact expects its maiden drill results to come in towards the end of the second quarter.
