Equinox Resources (ASX:EQN) has announced significant advancements in its exploration efforts at the Mata da Corda Rare Earths (REE) Project in Brazil.

The company recently commenced its Phase 1 reverse circulation (RC) drilling program, targeting high-grade rare earth element (REE) zones, following promising surface sample results that indicate exceptional district-scale potential.

Highlights:

The Phase 1 RC drilling at Mata da Corda is focused on exploring ultra-high grade clay surface sample areas, with surface samples revealing impressive Total Rare Earth Oxide (TREO) concentrations of up to 10,110 ppm.

Noteworthy results include 5,879 ppm TREO and 5,212 ppm TREO, among others.

Additionally, significant anomalies in Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) were observed, suggesting potential for a valuable secondary product.

The drilling aims to confirm the consistency of these grades at depth, with the initial drilling set to be completed by mid-August 2024.

Equinox Resources Managing Director, Zac Komur, emphasised the significance of these findings, stating, “The additional surface sample results confirm that Mata da Corda has exceptional district-scale targets, with over half the samples exceeding 2000 ppm TREO across the 972 km² project area. We have partnered with a nimble and cost-effective RC drilling contractor who will mobilise the rig based on high-grade surface sample anomalies for our Phase 1 drilling campaign. Additionally, we are utilising our own auger drill rigs to gain a comprehensive understanding of the clay profile and to map the clay horizon zoning, allowing us to penetrate the cerium anomalies observed on the surface. The same drilling contractor has also mobilised a drill rig to commence operations at the hard rock monazite sand project in Campo Grande.”

This development marks a crucial step in Equinox Resources’ journey to unlock the full potential of the Mata da Corda project, further solidifying the company’s position in the rare earths market.
