Critical Resources (ASX:CRR) has turned the drill bit at its Amoco gold-antimony project in northern New South Wales, marking the start of a program designed to test the geological credentials of one of the region’s more compelling exploration targets.

For the company, the campaign represents a methodical step in a wider strategy to establish a foothold across multiple critical and precious metals projects in Australia, Canada and New Zealand.

Highlights

  • Maiden 12-hole RC drill program, ~1,000 metres across a 400 metre strike length.

  • Priority target defined by a +2 kilometre wide soil geochemistry anomaly.

  • Rock samples up to 17.9 g/t gold, 0.7% antimony, and 80 g/t silver.

  • Additional 13 holes submitted for regulatory approval.

  • Project located within the New England Fold Belt, 19 km from Hillgrove and 14 km from Enmore.

  • Drilling expected to complete in October with assays due mid-November.

The Amoco project sits within the New England Fold Belt, an area of established antimony and gold production that hosts Larvotto Resources’ Hillgrove operations and Koonenberry Gold’s Enmore project.

The structural corridor in which Amoco is located has long been recognised for its mineral endowment, with fault systems extending for hundreds of metres and providing fertile ground for mineralising fluids.

The present drill program comprises 12 reverse circulation holes, amounting to approximately 1,000 metres.

The initial focus is a 400 metre strike length, interpreted from a two kilometre soil geochemistry anomaly.

Field work has already confirmed encouraging rock chips, with assays returning up to 17.9 grams per tonne of gold, 0.7 per cent antimony and 80 grams per tonne of silver, results that align with mineralisation controls observed elsewhere in the New England Fold Belt.

The company has also identified further targets from a detailed soil geochemistry survey, designing an additional 13 holes submitted to the New South Wales Resources Regulator, with the aim of incorporating them into the current program while the rig remains on site to ensure efficient testing of the anomaly and accelerate geological understanding.

Chief executive officer Tim Wither emphasised the significance of this stage of work, stating

“It is exciting to commence the maiden gold-antimony drill program at Amoco and we look forward to acquiring a significant amount of geological understanding into the potential at Amoco, given the early-staged exploration phase.”

Beyond Amoco, Critical Resources is progressing permitting for its Mayview gold-antimony project, also in New South Wales, where low-impact soil geochemistry surveys are planned across historic workings.

In parallel, the company maintains exposure to battery metals through its Mavis Lake lithium project in Ontario, which holds an inferred resource of 8 million tonnes at 1.07 per cent Li2O, and its Halls Peak base metals project in New South Wales.

The broader significance of Amoco lies not only in its gold potential but also in the strategic role of antimony, a metalloid increasingly recognised as a critical mineral for defence and energy storage applications, where limited global supply chains mean exploration success in Australia could provide valuable options for domestic and allied supply at a time when diversification is in demand.

With drilling due to conclude in October and assays anticipated from mid-November, the results will be pivotal in shaping the scale of follow-up activity and determining Amoco’s position within Critical Resources’ multi-commodity portfolio.

Investors with an eye on the sector will be watching for early confirmation of continuity and grade, which will determine whether Amoco can emerge as a valuable addition to the regional exploration landscape
