Azzuro Resources PLC (ASX:AZ9) reports 36.85m massive sulphide intercept at Red Hill VMS project, Mongolia
June 25, 2026Azzuro Resources PLC has reported results from its Phase 1 drilling program at the Red Hill copper-gold volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) project in southwestern Mongolia, following completion of 15 drillholes comprising diamond and reverse circulation drilling since 30 April 2026.
The program includes testing of massive sulphide, near-surface oxide gold-silver and shallow gold-copper targets within the project area.
Highlights
- 15 drillholes completed for 1,883.9 metres, comprising 12 diamond holes and 3 RC holes
- Five of six holes targeting the massive sulphide zone intersected sulphide mineralisation
- MU2610A intersected a 36.85m thick predominantly pyritic massive sulphide zone from 72.3m
- A 2m chalcopyrite-rich interval at 33% chalcopyrite logged from 143.85m in MU2610A
- Massive sulphide system visually identified over approximately 272m of strike
- System remains open along strike and down-dip as stated in the announcement
- Downhole electromagnetic surveying planned across diamond drillholes
- Drilling commenced at Copper Ridge targeting a chargeability anomaly
The company reports that drilling at Red Hill comprised 15 holes completed since 30 April 2026, including 12 diamond holes and 3 reverse circulation holes for a total of 1,883.9 metres drilled.
The program included six holes targeting the massive sulphide system, seven holes targeting a near-surface oxide gold-silver zone, and one hole targeting a shallow gold-copper prospect in the southwest of the project area.
Within the massive sulphide target area, five of the six holes drilled intersected sulphide mineralisation, while MU2610A intersected a 36.85 metre thick predominantly pyritic massive sulphide zone from 72.3 metres downhole.
The company also reported a discrete chalcopyrite-rich interval of approximately 2 metres at 33% chalcopyrite from 143.85 metres downhole.
The announcement states that the massive sulphide system has been visually identified over approximately 272 metres of strike, and that the system remains open along strike and down-dip.
MU2610A was drilled following abandonment of MU2610 due to faulted ground conditions, with MU2610A collared approximately 4 metres west of the original hole and drilled with an adjusted azimuth of 190 degrees.
The announcement states that the massive sulphide system has been visually identified over approximately 272 metres of strike, and that the system remains open along strike and down-dip, and also states that drilling has commenced at the Copper Ridge prospect to test a chargeability anomaly defined by a 3D induced polarisation survey.
Azzuro Managing director Gan-Ochir Zunduisuren stated:
“Our first major drilling program at Red Hill has opened up a potentially material VMS play and provided us with a robust understanding of the mineralisation system. Assays for most of the program are due in only a matter of weeks. We are building a detailed picture of a substantial VMS system that remains open in several directions.”
The announcement further states that drilling also tested a near-surface oxide gold-silver zone north of the VMS system and a shallow gold-copper target in the southwest of the project area.
These holes intersected altered and oxidised host rocks consistent with the targeted zones, with assay results pending.
The company reports that integration of geological and geophysical datasets, including gravity, resistivity, chargeability and planned downhole electromagnetic data, will be used to support future targeting work.
