Azzuro Resources (ASX:AZ9) confirms high-grade massive sulphides and extension at Red Hill Cu-Au Project
June 11, 2026Azzuro Resources (ASX:AZ9) has reported assay results from drillhole MU2601 and provided an update on the ongoing 2026 drilling program at its 100%-owned Red Hill (Maikhan Uul) Copper-Gold Volcanogenic Massive Sulphide (VMS) Project in southwestern Mongolia.
The results confirm thick, high-grade massive sulphide mineralisation and a substantial lateral extension along strike, reinforcing the project’s potential as a significant polymetallic system.
Highlights
- MU2601 intersected two massive sulphide zones: 13.1m @ 2.58% Cu, 0.96 g/t Au, 22.4 g/t Ag, 0.76% Zn from 108.4m, and 6.4m @ 1.68% Cu, 0.62 g/t Au, 2.3 g/t Ag, 0.35% Zn from 135.6m
- Shallow high-grade gold-silver mineralisation confirmed: 4.9m @ 3.49 g/t Au, 10.5 g/t Ag from 16.1m, including 3.3m @ 5.00 g/t Au, 12.9 g/t Ag
- Drillhole MU2605 confirmed extension of mineralisation 124 metres west-northwest of MU2604, visually intercepting massive and disseminated sulphide zones
- 2026 drilling program includes seven diamond drillholes (MU2601–MU2607) and three reverse circulation drillholes (MURC01–MURC03)
- Near-surface gold-silver oxide zone being tested with five shallow holes; assays pending
MU2601 was drilled to test priority geophysical and geochemical targets interpreted to host VMS mineralisation, and the assays confirm two zones of strongly mineralised massive sulphide: a main 13.1m zone averaging 2.58% copper, 0.96 g/t gold, 22.4 g/t silver and 0.76% zinc, and a second 6.4m zone with slightly lower grades.
These results validate the geophysical targeting model and confirm the presence of a polymetallic system hosted in steeply north-dipping dacitic and rhyolitic volcanic rocks, with a near-surface oxide gold-silver zone developed to the north of the main VMS lens.
Azzuro Resources Managing Director Gan-Ochir Zunduisuren said,
“The results mark a significant step forward for the Red Hill project. The MU2601 assays confirm thick, high-grade copper-gold-zinc-silver massive sulphide mineralisation, with the headline 13.1 metre intercept grading 2.58% copper. Just as importantly, MU2605 has intersected two mineralised zones, with the lower zone intersecting massive sulphide mineralisation a further ~124 metres along strike from our previously reported drillholes, including a remarkable chalcopyrite-rich basal interval. The combined results suggest this may be part of an annulus of high copper grade around a core of thick, more pyritic, higher-temperature massive sulphide. This possibility, together with the large strike length of VMS mineralisation at Red Hill, suggests a substantial mineralised system,”
The 2026 drilling program is designed to extend and define the high-grade VMS system while testing the lateral continuity of the shallow oxide gold-silver zone to the north.
MU2605 visual logging confirms massive to semi-massive sulphides through much of the hole, extending the visually logged system approximately 124 metres to the west-northwest and taking the total strike length of VMS mineralisation intercepted by Azzuro to approximately 272 metres.
The system remains open both along strike and at depth. Assays from the remaining drillholes are pending and expected within the coming weeks.
Complementary geophysical surveys, including a ground gravity survey and three-dimensional inversion being undertaken by Terra Resources Pty Ltd, will be integrated with drilling, downhole electromagnetic (DHEM), and resistivity datasets to refine drill targeting across the Red Hill tenement.
This approach is designed to inform further exploration and step-out drilling to define extensions of the VMS and shallow oxide zones.
Looking ahead, Red Hill continues to demonstrate high-grade intercepts and substantial lateral continuity, positioning Azzuro to advance exploration and potential resource definition in a polymetallic VMS system.
Integration of assay results, drilling, and geophysical interpretation provides a structured framework to test the full extent of mineralisation across the project, while the shallow gold-silver zone offers additional near-surface exploration potential.
