5E Advanced Materials (ASX:5EA) begin US operations

January 3, 2024 Off By Rueben Hale

5E Advanced Materials has moved closer to fulfilling its vision of becoming the newest domestic producer of boric acid and lithium carbonate.

The company has begun mining operations at its 5E Boron Americas Complex in Fort Cady, Hesperia, California. The objective is to establish a sustainable energy infrastructure, support electric transport, produce fertilizers, and ensure domestic security.

The move follows the rencent release of operational planning for boron and lithium mining, which includes commencing wellfield operations and completing any remaining operational tasks at the facility.

The company plans to produce boric acid and lithium carbonate from the small-scale facility by the end of the first calendar quarter 2024. It has been fast-tracked to meet the deadline by the US government for critical infrastructure funding.

The company also works under its EPA UIC permit to extract valuable minerals from its wholly-owned project.

The wellfield injection process has been initiated, and the company expects to begin lab production in the short term.

5E CEO Susan Brennan said her team has been resilient through the construction process, navigating several challenges and ultimately bringing our facility online.

5E Advanced Materials’ mission is to become a vertically integrated global leader and supplier of boron specialty and advanced materials, complemented by lithium co-product production,” Ms Brennan said

It can be found in its natural form as ores and concentrates and can be further refined into higher value specialty and advanced materials. 5E aims to focus on developing these advanced materials, enhanced with Boron.
