Vertex Minerals (ASX:VTX) join the Lake Johnston lithium rush
November 29, 2023Vertex Minerals will join a fray of explorers, which includes Rio Tinto, heading to the Lake Johnston lithium corridor in Western Australia following significant discoveries by others in the area.
The explorer is planning to undertake a lithium survey over its fully owned Taylor Rock tenement at Lake Johnston
The company says the recent lithium discoveries, together with an internal review, have prompted the program.
Taylor Rock sits northeast of Charger Metals/Rio Tinto Medcalf Spodumene Deposit JV and TG Metals Burmeister and Jaegermeister Li Prospects.
Taylor Rock covers the tenement’s favourable mafic and high Mg mafic rocks. These rocks have, in turn, been lateritically weathered.
“Vertex geologists previously mapped the very limited exposed pegmatites at Taylor Rock and found they carried low Li levels,” the company said.
“Given that there are cases of surface-expressed pegmatites that have depleted levels of Li but are mineralised at depth, and there is only limited exposed rock to sample, and the tenement is substantially covered by weathered lateritic material, a soil sampling program offers the best opportunity to find Li bearing pegmatites.”
