Miramar Resources (ASX:M2R) targets bedrock gold with high resolution SAM survey at Gidji JV

Miramar Resources (ASX:M2R) targets bedrock gold with high resolution SAM survey at Gidji JV

June 25, 2025 Off By MarketOpen

In this investor Q&A we speak with Miramar Resources Executive Chairman Allan Kelly about the launch of a high resolution Sub Audio Magnetic (SAM) survey at the company’s Gidji Joint Venture Gold Project in Western Australia.

Recent aircore drilling confirmed widespread supergene gold mineralisation beneath the Gidji Paleochannel.

The SAM survey is therefore a pivotal step toward locating the primary bedrock source of that gold.

Allan explains the purpose of the survey, why Gidji is such a strategic asset, and how this work fits into Miramar’s broader exploration plans.

What is the purpose of the SAM survey at Gidji

The survey is designed to map mineralised bedrock structures that likely sit beneath the Gidji Paleochannel.

Previous aircore drilling outlined significant supergene gold in the weathered profile, which points to a nearby source in the bedrock.

The SAM data will provide high resolution images of the subsurface that guide the next phase of deeper drilling.

“The aircore drilling completed at Gidji has outlined a substantial amount of supergene gold mineralisation within the stripped weathering profile under the Gidji Paleochannel. We believe that supergene gold has come from one or more bedrock sources nearby.”

Why is Gidji a strategic location for gold exploration

Gidji sits just fifteen kilometres north of Kalgoorlie, inside one of Australia’s most prolific gold districts.

The project lies along the Boorara Shear Zone and is surrounded by major operations such as Paddington, Kanowna Belle and the Kalgoorlie Super Pit.

This proven neighbourhood offers both geological potential and clear development pathways if discovery success continues.

“We also know from regional studies of gold deposits along the Boorara and Bardoc Shear Zones, that the mineralised structures within those deposits are usually offset to that of the main shear zone.”

How does the SAM method differ from traditional geophysics

Standard magnetic surveys read variations in the earth’s natural magnetic field.

SAM employs a controlled artificial magnetic field generated by a transmitter, allowing Miramar to highlight structures in chosen orientations and detect conductive features that conventional tools might miss.

The increased resolution is especially valuable in stripped palaeochannel settings where subtle structures control mineralisation.

“SAM, or Sub Audio Magnetics, is a step up from the traditional magnetic surveys most people are familiar with. Standard magnetics measure variations in the earth’s natural magnetic field to infer subsurface features. SAM, on the other hand, creates a controlled artificial magnetic field using a geophysical transmitter. The SAM survey enables us to look for bedrock structures in one or more specific orientations, in this case the ones we think could host bedrock gold mineralisation.”

What happens after the SAM survey is complete

When the survey finishes, the geophysical data will be merged with existing drilling results to build a detailed structural model.

That model will rank and prioritise targets for deeper drill testing by RC or diamond rigs. At the same time Miramar is awaiting assays from its latest aircore campaign at Gidji and preparing RC drilling at the nearby 8 Mile target.

“Once the SAM survey wraps up, we’ll start by interpreting the data and integrating it with the drilling results we already have. That combination of datasets will allow us to build a clearer picture of the structural framework beneath the palaeochannel.”

Is Miramar advancing other projects alongside Gidji

Yes, beyond Gidji, Miramar is planning RC drilling at 8 Mile based on recent IP results, and an airborne magnetic and EM survey at its Bangemall nickel copper PGE projects, co-funded through the Exploration Incentive Scheme.

A field trip to the high-grade Chain Pool base metal project is also scheduled.

These parallel programs give Miramar multiple opportunities for discovery across commodities.

Looking Ahead

As Miramar Resources finalises the SAM survey and receives pending aircore assays, focus will shift to ranking deeper drill targets at Gidji and delivering news flow from 8 Mile, Bangemall and Chain Pool.

Investors can expect a steady cadence of updates as the company advances its multi project exploration strategy in Western Australia.
