Lunnon Metals (ASX:LM8) Lady Herial depth extension highlights gold and nickel convergence

Lunnon Metals (ASX:LM8) Lady Herial depth extension highlights gold and nickel convergence

Lunnon Metals Limited has provided an update on its Lady Herial gold system, highlighting promising developments with significant exploration results.

The company’s exploration activities suggest the potential for synergies between the Lady Herial gold system and the adjacent Foster nickel mine, sparking interest in the prospects for both gold and nickel production in the region.

Highlights

  • The Lady Herial gold system extends over 1.5km with a total of 84,400oz of gold identified.
  • The gold system is open at depth and down-plunge within Zone 4 of the Defiance Dolerite.
  • Potential interaction between the gold structures at Lady Herial and the existing nickel resources at the Foster mine, particularly the 85H nickel Mineral Resource.
  • Lunnon Metals is exploring both open-pit and underground options for future development.

The Lady Herial gold system has demonstrated strong continuity in recent drilling results, characterised by a series of northwest-dipping quartz breccia lodes that host gold mineralisation within Zone 4 of the Defiance Dolerite, extending 1.5km and remaining open at depth, offering significant potential for further exploration.

Recent exploration results indicate the continuity of the system, with gold-bearing structures continuing to be present at depth and having the potential to extend further into other favourable host rocks, including the Lunnon Sediment and Paringa Basalt.

Importantly, these structures are located near the 85H nickel Mineral Resource at the Foster nickel mine, which may offer opportunities for dual-resource extraction, and the proximity of the gold structures to the Foster mine, along with the geological similarities to the St Ives gold camp, has led to the consideration of potential synergies between the two mineral systems.

As stated by Lunnon Metals Managing Director Edmund Ainscough:

“The relationship between the high-grade, nickel sulphide channels and the later gold structures in the Kambalda-St Ives camp is now well established. Beta/Hunt (owned and operated by Westgold Resources Ltd – ASX:WGX), is just 12km -15km directly north of our Foster-Baker project and hosted in exactly the same stratigraphic position within the Kalgoorlie Domain as our own Foster Gold Belt.”

The proximity of the gold-bearing structures at Lady Herial to the nickel resources at Foster presents an opportunity for potential interaction and exploration of both gold and nickel in the region.

The Kambalda-St Ives district is known for its world-class gold and nickel deposits, with the region having produced over 16Moz of gold to date.

The Lady Herial gold system lies within the same geological setting that has historically hosted significant gold deposits, particularly within the Defiance Dolerite, and the company is evaluating the opportunity to advance the exploration and potential extraction of gold from the system, particularly as the structures plunge to the southwest and northeast.

The geological environment at Lady Herial is considered typical of the St Ives-style gold deposits, where gold-bearing structures intersect iron-rich, brittle host rocks, providing optimal sites for the development of high-grade gold mineralisation.

Exploration results to date have shown that these structures are continuous and may have the potential for significant mineralisation at depth.

The company is also exploring the possibility of developing both a cutback to the existing Lady Herial open pit and underground exploration from the Foster mine, with this dual-access strategy potentially providing a significant opportunity for both gold and nickel production as exploration continues.

Lunnon Metals’ approach to advancing the Lady Herial gold system is supported by its strengthening cash balance, which will allow the company to execute a targeted drilling campaign to further define and delineate the extent of the gold mineralisation.

The company is also evaluating the costs, time, and resources required to dewater and re-enter the Foster nickel mine for future gold exploration.

As the company progresses its exploration efforts, the potential for a synergistic gold and nickel operation at Lady Herial and Foster could lead to substantial growth.

Lunnon Metals Limited continues to evaluate its strategic options for advancing the project, with a focus on maximising value through a combination of open-pit and underground mining methods.
