Lithium Australia (ASX:LU7) tests at Linyi continue to show refinery model meets battery grade
May 13, 2024Lithium Universe continues to show the design for its modelled Bécancour Lithium Refinery in Canada will meet battery-grade lithium carbonate standard using spodumene feedstock from across the world.
The company is overseeing continued testing of spod feedstocks as part of its definitive feasibility study being prepared by respected international consultant Hatch.
Lithium Universe’s latest test results are from a second batch of lithium batteries, where the first batch also met the battery grade of more than 99.5% Li2CO3.
The positive sign came after company board members and its CEO Alex Hanly visited North America to visit the world-class Linyi University Lithium Research Centre where in-house analysis is taking place.
Lithium Universe Chairman Iggy Tan acknowledged the company’s success in producing battery-grade lithium carbonate in a short time period.
“The results demonstrate the validity of the process design when processing multiple types of spodumene feedstock from all around the world,” he said.
“This places LU7 in a unique position; due to the design not being tied solely to a single spodumene mine but having the flexibility to produce battery-grade lithium carbonate from spodumene feedstocks all around the world.”
The refinery spec has cyclone preheaters positioned where a calcination kiln is fed to facilitate processing of finer ore types.
The company expects that cyclone preheating will improve calcination of fine spod-feed to make extraction more efficient.
Lithium Universe is exploring options for using feedstock from North America and beyond.
The ambitious lithium company, which hopes to build its own supply chain, could process its own sources of lithium as its travels down a development pathway as markets adopt battery-powered electric vehicle adoption and green technology options.
