Duketon Mining has announced the granting of its 100% owned Walgoolan Project tenement in Western Australia, covering 59 sq km and located northeast of Merredin, with historical drilling identifying broad shallow zones of silver, gold, lead and zinc mineralisation and multiple geophysical targets.

Highlights

  • Walgoolan Project comprises one granted tenement E77/3129 covering 59 sq km
  • Located 45km northeast of Merredin and 20km along strike from Edna May Gold Mine
  • Historical drilling intersected broad shallow zones of silver, gold, lead and zinc mineralisation
  • Intercepts include 11m @ 6.11g/t Ag, 0.2g/t Au, 0.16% Pb & 0.19% Zn from 13m
  • Numerous historic geophysical targets remain untested

The Walgoolan tenement E77/3129 is located 45km northeast of Merredin, covers an area of 59 sq km, and is situated 20km northwest of the Edna May Gold Mine within the Murchison Domain of the Youanmi Terrane.

The project covers the northwestern extension of the Westonia Greenstone Belt, which comprises high grade amphibolite to granulite facies metamorphic rocks disrupted by granite gneiss, granitoids and Proterozoic dolerite dykes.

The prospective rocks include high metamorphic grade gneisses that host gold mineralisation at the Edna May Gold Mine located 20km to the southeast.

Historical exploration across the project has been undertaken intermittently since the 1980’s and has included aeromagnetic and radiometric surveys, geological mapping, geochemical sampling and drilling programs.

This work identified magnetic target horizons and arsenic anomalies at Dicks Reward and a gold in soil anomaly at Anomaly 47.

Drilling at Anomaly 47 intersected multiple zones of silver, gold, lead and zinc mineralisation, including 26m @ 4226ppm Pb, 2322ppm Zn, 0.12g/t Au and 12g/t Ag from surface in DRC027 and 10m @ 6940ppm Pb, 3415ppm Zn, 0.29g/t Au and 25g/t Ag from 2m in DRC007.

Subsequent exploration programs included ground gravity surveys, airborne electromagnetic surveys and fixed loop electromagnetic surveys.

The ground gravity survey returned 31 discrete positive gravity anomalies with 14 targets ranked as priority for follow up, while the fixed loop electromagnetic survey resulted in a modelled bedrock conductor with a top at 15m, a strike extent of 32m and a depth extent of 170m.

Duketon Mining Managing Director Stuart Fogarty commented on the tenement grant and planned work.

“It’s encouraging to continue to build our portfolio of opportunities through the application and grant of tenements. This tenement has significant anomalism for both gold and base metals and is supported by geochemical and geophysical results. Once we’re through land access approvals, we’ll commence on-ground activity which will include further definition of new targets and drill testing of the pre-existing targets.”

The project area is located on freehold farming properties with gently undulating topography and an intensely developed regolith comprising deeply weathered soils, colluvium and alluvium, with outcropping bedrock described as rare.

Initial work will include finalising the compilation and review of all datasets and securing required approvals to commence on ground exploration, including further definition of targets and drill testing of pre existing targets.
