Caprice Resources (ASX:CRS) expands strategic footprint in West Arunta

Caprice Resources (ASX:CRS) has made a significant move in the West Arunta region of Western Australia, entering into a binding agreement to acquire 430 square kilometres of exploration tenure from Rio Tinto Exploration (RTX).

This acquisition, strategically positions Caprice as the third-largest ASX-listed explorer in the highly prospective West Arunta region.

Key Highlights:

  • Strategic Acquisition: Caprice’s acquisition of Exploration Licence E80/5486, covering 430km², enhances its position in the West Arunta, a region known for recent world-class discoveries. The new ground is adjacent to WA1 Resources’ tenure, which hosts the Luni Niobium-REE discovery, and directly west of Caprice’s Bantam Project.
  • Prospective Geology: The acquired ground is underlain by interpreted lateral extensions of basement geology and controlling structures, which are considered fertile for mineralised carbonatites. Caprice’s desktop review, conducted with the assistance of experienced consultants, indicates potential for Iron-Oxide-Copper-Gold (IOCG) mineralisation along with targets demonstrating similarities to the niobium-rich carbonatites found in neighbouring tenements.
  • No Prior Exploration: Notably, RTX has not conducted any prior exploration on this tenement, suggesting untapped potential. RTX retains a clawback provision, underscoring the ground’s prospectivity and potential for significant economic deposits.
  • Expedited Exploration Pathway: A Land Access Agreement is already in place, covering the acquired ground. This agreement, pending necessary consents, could expedite Caprice’s exploration activities, allowing for quicker mobilisation and on-ground work.

Luke Cox, CEO of Caprice Resources, commented on the acquisition:

“This acquisition secures Caprice a commanding land position, the third largest ASX listed exposure, in this highly fertile and very underexplored region which is being proven to host world class discoveries. It’s a great opportunity for investors to gain exposure to the West Arunta region prior to any share price appreciation off the back of exploration success. We’re grateful to Rio Tinto Exploration (RTX) for selecting Caprice and their collaborative approach in reaching a binding agreement, through which we hope to deliver exploration success to the benefit of all parties.”

West Arunta: A Region of Growing Importance

The West Arunta region, previously underexplored, has gained significant attention following recent discoveries by WA1 Resources and Encounter Resources.

These discoveries have highlighted the region’s potential for niobium and rare earth elements (REE), particularly within carbonatite-hosted systems.

Caprice’s new tenement shares a 25km border with WA1 Resources’ project, further enhancing its strategic significance.

As part of its due diligence, Caprice engaged Resource Potentials, the geophysical consultants involved in WA1’s Luni and Pachpadra discoveries, to assess the prospectivity of the new ground.

The consultants’ review identified geophysical features indicative of shallow cover and prospective lithologies, suggesting similarities to the mineralised systems targeted by neighbouring explorers.

Next Steps and Future Plans

Caprice is set to complete Tranche 2 of its capital raising on 29 August 2024, providing the financial runway needed to advance exploration activities.

The company’s immediate focus will be on finalising the transfer of the Land Access Agreement and engaging with the local Kiwirrkurra Community to ensure a collaborative and respectful approach to exploration.

In addition to its activities in the West Arunta, Caprice is also reviewing its Murchison Gold assets, with a view to maximising shareholder value through strategic exploration and development.

With this latest acquisition, Caprice Resources is well-positioned to capitalise on the emerging opportunities in the West Arunta region, potentially unlocking significant value for its shareholders.

The company’s strategic landholding, coupled with its proactive approach to exploration, could see it emerge as a key player in one of Australia’s most exciting new mineral provinces
