The updated MRE for the Ema Project’s starter zone comes in at a substantial 350 million tonnes, grading at 778 ppm Total Rare Earth Oxides (TREO).
This robust resource will underpin the upcoming Scoping Study, expected in Q1 2025, which aims to define a low-capital start-up strategy.
Managing Director Andrew Reid noted, “The Scoping Study will outline a long-life, low-cost and low-risk rare earth project, capable of maintaining strong cashflow margins throughout the rare earth price cycle”.
Geology That Sets Ema Apart
What makes the Ema Project especially compelling is its similarity to the ionic clay deposits in southern China, the world’s premier source of REEs.
The project’s tropical lateritic weathering profile over felsic volcanic rocks enables the formation of ionically adsorbed rare earths, which are easier and less invasive to extract.
Impressively, recoverability rates of critical elements such as neodymium and dysprosium reach up to 85% in tests, further highlighting the project’s economic and strategic value.
Expansive Potential
Significantly, the starter zone represents just 14% of the total 189 km² tenement area, leaving vast opportunities for expansion.
The current MRE includes 36% of resources in the Indicated category, which BCM plans to increase further through ongoing drilling.
As Reid explained, “We expect the majority of the remaining starter zone Inferred material to be converted to the Indicated category once all final assays are received”.
Strategic Implications
Beyond the resource numbers, the Ema Project positions Brazil as a new contender in the global REE market, diversifying a supply chain long dominated by China.
With the world increasingly dependent on critical minerals for technologies like electric vehicles and renewable energy, projects like Ema could play a pivotal role in reducing geopolitical risks.

BCM’s methodical approach—focused on incremental resource upgrades, detailed geological modelling, and ongoing permeability field trials—underscores its commitment to a de-risked path forward.
As the company moves towards feasibility studies, the Ema Project is shaping up as a standout in the junior mining sector.
Reid remarked, “The technical robustness and marketable attractiveness of the Ema Project reaffirm our confidence in its potential”.
