SQX Resources (ASX:SQX) expands Williams footprint as staking captures bonanza-grade strike extensions
February 16, 2026SQX Resources has moved to consolidate its position at the Williams gold-silver project in Montana, completing a winter staking campaign that more than doubles its ground holding through its 80%-owned subsidiary AM6 Mining LLC.
The company has registered 25 new claims, lifting the total to 45, securing interpreted strike extensions of historically bonanza-grade vein systems and additional outcropping structures beyond the main Black Bear workings.
Highlights
-
25 new claims staked, increasing the Williams project footprint to 45 claims.
-
Expanded tenure captures interpreted ~2.5km strike extensions of bonanza-grade veins associated with the Black Bear system.
-
Historical bulk sampling at Black Bear returned 876t @ 141.7g/t Au and 780g/t Ag from the 101 raise, plus 17.3g/t Au and 84g/t Ag from the 1,666m level.
-
New claims also cover additional veins north-east of Black Bear, including Fool’s Hen and Christian’s Reef, where a recent grab sample returned 4.3g/t Au and 30g/t Ag.
-
Planned work includes geological mapping and sampling, underground bulk sampling, EM geophysics, drilling and metallurgy.
The expanded footprint is strategically positioned to encompass potential extensions of the steeply south to south-west plunging bonanza-grade shoots that define the Williams epithermal vein system, which has seen extensive underground development.
SQX reported that prior underground channel, muck and bulk sampling from the 1980s has been validated by its own 2025 assay work, reinforcing the presence of high-grade gold and silver within broader mineralised structures.
Executive chairman Bevan Tarratt said the additional tenure provides operational flexibility ahead of the next field season, noting that
“this staking program ensures that as we move into our 2026 field season, we are not just exploring a single deposit, but what appears to be emerging as a significant vein field. We now have the ground required to systematically test for the next generation of bonanza-grade deposits across the entire 45-claim package.”
Beyond Black Bear, the new claims capture outcropping veins up to ~2.5km east of the existing underground workings, as well as the Fool’s Hen and Christian’s Reef structures to the north-east.
Sampling at Christian’s Reef has already delivered a single grab result of 4.3g/t Au and 30g/t Ag, highlighting the broader prospectivity of the expanded landholding.
From a technical perspective, SQX has also pointed to earlier qualitative conductivity testing, which showed sulphide-rich, high-grade gold samples exhibiting strong conductive responses.
This supports the potential application of electromagnetic techniques, including fixed-loop EM and down-hole EM, to help delineate conductive high-grade zones within the epithermal system, complementing planned surface and underground mapping and sampling.
The Williams project forms part of SQX’s North American portfolio, alongside the Red Bird gold project in Arizona, with additional gold and copper exploration interests in southeast Queensland.
At Williams, 25 of the newly staked claims are owned 100% by AM6, while 20 existing unpatented claims are held under a purchase agreement and subject to a 2% NSR.
Looking ahead, the company has outlined a work program comprising detailed surface and underground geological mapping, underground bulk sampling of exposed mineralised zones, EM geophysics, drilling and metallurgical studies.
For investors, the immediate significance lies in the consolidation of tenure over historically productive structures, providing SQX with the ground position required to methodically assess the continuity of mineralisation across the broader Williams system as it advances into the 2026 field season.
