Copper in the Cordillera: Culpeo Minerals (ASX:CPO) next big shot at La Florida
July 21, 2025Culpeo Minerals (ASX:CPO) is no stranger to Chile’s copper rich terrain.
But with trench sampling revealing multiple zones of high-grade copper across a 1.7km by 500m corridor at its La Florida Prospect, the Perth based junior may have unearthed its most compelling discovery since Lana Corina.
Located in the coastal Cordillera, just 25km north of Lana Corina, the La Florida prospect sits within Culpeo’s Fortuna Project and is exhibiting all the geological signatures of a productive porphyry copper system.
Surface trenching has returned standout copper grades, including:
- 10.00m at 2.70% Cu
- 6.00m at 2.31% Cu
- 3.00m at 2.25% Cu
- 21.00m at 1.10% Cu
- 30.00m at 1.00% Cu
Notably, some trenches also returned elevated gold values, with up to 1.34g/t Au, further enhancing the project’s appeal.
These results align with a well defined alteration system and geochemical footprint consistent with porphyry style mineralisation, an encouraging sign for investors seeking scale and grade.
Drilling is already underway to test the copper rich targets identified by surface work, with assays due in Q3 2025. Culpeo Minerals exploration approach combining methodical trenching with geochemical and structural interpretation reflects a disciplined strategy that has so far served them well at Lana Corina.
Executive Chairman Geoff McNamara says the early results speak volumes:
“These results highlight the high-grade and widespread nature of the copper mineralisation identified by the Culpeo team at the La Florida Prospect. The combination of strong surface mineralisation and geological similarities to Lana Corina gives us confidence that La Florida represents a significant new copper discovery opportunity.”
For investors, Culpeo’s exploration success comes at a time when the global energy transition is intensifying demand for copper, yet supply growth remains challenged, especially in established jurisdictions.
Chile remains a top copper destination, and Culpeo is positioning itself to benefit from this thematic through its boots-on-ground strategy in underexplored corridors.
The Fortuna Project’s infrastructure advantage existing roads, proximity to the Los Pelambres mine, and a well established regional mining ecosystem also places Culpeo in a strong position to advance any discovery toward development with fewer logistical hurdles.
Key Takeaways for Investors:
- High-grade copper confirmed over a 1.7km x 500m corridor
- Geological indicators point to a classic porphyry system
- Drill program underway with assays due Q3 2025
- Strategic position within Chile’s Coastal Cordillera
- Shares dual-listed on ASX (CPO) and OTCQB (CPORF)
Culpeo’s share price has yet to reflect the potential upside at La Florida. For investors attuned to early-stage copper plays with scale, grade and infrastructure advantages, Culpeo is fast becoming a name to watch.
