TG Metals (ASX:TG6) returns record Lake Johnston lithium

TG Metals (ASX:TG6) returns record Lake Johnston lithium

February 27, 2024 Off By Jack Baker

TG Metals’ initial assays from the new year’s RC campaign at the Burmeister prospect have returned its best results to date, logging a top 23.5 metres at 1.52 per cent lithium oxide intercept and a new record 3.01% Li2O assay at its Lake Johnston lithium-nickel-gold project in Western Australia.

The explorer’s first holes into Burmeister late last year had already revealed a high-grade discovery which put the spotlight on Lake Johnston as one of Australia’s most enticing exploration frontiers for lithium.

The high-grade hits continued later into the year, logging a previous-best 2.88% Li2O and extending the strike to 1400m of open mineralisation.

TG Metals Chief Executive Officer David Selfe said these results had now confirmed Burmeister as a significant high-grade spodumene lithium discovery with excellent potential as a major near-term deposit.

“This large mineralised system continues to show upside with thick pegmatite intervals intersected up dip from the original discovery holes,” Mr Selfe said.

“The drilling program has provided sufficient core sample for our first round of metallurgical test work which will now begin in earnest. The results of this will add to the planning for resource drill out at Burmeister.”

Mr Selfe added that permitting on the promising Jaegermeister prospect was progressing well, with field activities now nearing completion.

“In addition, we will be testing wider expanses of the soil anomaly with seismic geophysics to further inform the lithium pegmatite geological model and our drill targeting.”

“We look forward to the next round of drilling on Burmeister and the first drilling on our other highly prospective targets at Jaegermeister and Tay.”

Forward plan

Surveys are now being done over both Burmeister and Jaegermeister with a view to get back to drilling, including a maiden campaign over the latter after now-completed infill soil sampling.

TG Metals plans to soon begin seismic trials over both prospects to support drill targeting, expecting that work over known pegmatite occurrences at Burmeister will confirm the seismic geophysics’ capabilities in detecting Lake Johnston pegmatite.

More RC assays are expected to come in over the next fortnight, and the Tay prospect south of Burmeister is now being evaluated for historical records to define near-term targets for the drill.
