Armada (ASX:AMM) embark at Bend NickelOctober 19, 2023
Armada Metals has begun its Phase 1 diamond drilling campaign at Bend Nickel, following up on significant historic intercepts and fresh targets at the newly acquired Zimbabwean Project.
The eight-hole, 2500 metre program will satisfy the conditions for 50 per cent ownership of the project and look to validate past attention from the major miners at the Bend Nickel Deposit and test Armada’s distinct drill targets.
Armada Managing Director and CEO Dr Ross McGowan said today was an exciting moment for the company.
“With field teams on site during September, and into early October, capturing more invaluable geophysical data, we have now begun our first diamond drill holes into the historically drilled Bend Nickel Deposit, where notable nickel mineralisation has been previously reported, and where Armada have outlined additional potential targets,” Dr McGowan said.
“In this Phase 1 program, we aim to rapidly test the style, tenor, and distribution of the existing known mineralisation, alongside testing the new apparent conductors identified by the technical team.
“This planned work, including the additional geophysical data being collected at the same time, will accelerate our understanding of the potential and scale of this magmatic nickel system in Zimbabwe.”
Discovered in the 1970’s, the Bend Nickel Deposit had previously been explored by multiple global miners like Anglo American, and was last drilled in the 1990’s before the steel-driven rise and pig nickel-led descent of prices in the mid-2000’s.
But with nickel a target for the majors again as one of the essential battery commodities, it was snapped up by Armada, who used an NSAMT survey over the project to yield three new apparent conductors with a size, strength and geological context which exceeded its early expectations.
The distinct targets validated Armada’s exploration techniques, and it will continue using the NSAMT survey to determine the extent of a B1 conductor which remains open along strike and at depth in parallel with drilling.
Another 10-line kilometre survey is also planned to test for conductors along a highly prospective geological contact within the wider project as Armada await results from its first proper look into Bend Nickel.
