Syrah Resources (ASX:SYR) to begin long-awaited anode production in US
Syrah Resources has confirmed production at its state-of-the-art anode facility in Louisiana will start this month.
The 11.25ktpa active anode material facility in the southern state town of Vidalia is in commissioning and set to start production by the end of January.
Commissioning primarily involves purification, of furnaces process areas and equipment and handover to Syrah’s 100-person operations team.
The company has reported producing unpurified spherical graphite from the front-end milling area since October 2023.
“[This was] to build an inventory of precursor value-added material in preparation for the purification and furnace areas becoming operational,” the company said.
“However, commissioning of the purification area, including the introduction of reagents into the circuit, is delayed due to optimisation activities associated with the press filtration system and unusual below-freezing temperatures forecast at Vidalia next week.”
Syrah’s site team is working with vendors to complete wet commissioning of the purification area with the forecast improvement in weather at Vidalia after next week.
The heating cycle for the first furnace line commenced in early January 2024 to prepare for the carbonisation of pitch-coated purified spherical graphite with wet commissioning and production of finished AAM product.
Syrah plans to provide a further update on commissioning and the start of AAM production at Vidalia before or with its December 2023 quarterly report later this month.
