Structural Monitoring Systems (ASX:SMN) strengthens board leadership with Bassett appointment
January 6, 2026Structural Monitoring Systems has appointed Mr Neville Bassett AM as Non-Executive Chairman, effective from the close of the company’s Annual General Meeting held in Perth, Western Australia on 23 December 2025.
The appointment aligns with the Company’s stated focus on governance, strategic capability and operational discipline as it progresses toward key regulatory milestones and positions the business for commercial rollout following certification.

Mr Bassett brings more than three decades of experience across corporate advisory, financial management and public company governance, having played roles in numerous public company listings, capital raisings, mergers and acquisitions and has extensive experience working within the ASX regulatory environment.
His background as a Chartered Accountant and Fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand underpins a long-standing focus on financial oversight, governance structures and board level decision making within regulated operating environments.
His current listed company roles include serving as Non-Executive Chairman of Auris Minerals Ltd and as a Non-Executive Director of Tennant Minerals Ltd and Bulletin Resources Ltd.
He has also previously held a number of public company directorships across the resources, technology and services sectors, providing exposure to a broad range of operating models and market conditions.
This experience is relevant for companies such as SMS which seek to balance complex certification processes, regulatory compliance and capital discipline.
Beyond corporate boardrooms, Mr Bassett served as a Director/Councillor of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) in Western Australia for 26 years, serving eight years as Chairman and six as the RFDS Western Operations representative on the National Board.
His contribution to aviation emergency medical services was recognised with the award of Member of the Order of Australia in the 2015 Australia Day Honours, complementing his corporate background and forming part of the broader leadership profile he brings to the Non-Executive Chairman role.
Mr Bassett’s long-standing involvement with the RFDS also aligns closely with Structural Monitoring Systems’ aviation focus, particularly through its wholly owned subsidiary Anodyne Electronics Manufacturing Corp (AEM).
AEM already supplies certified avionics systems into emergency medical and special-mission aircraft fleets across North America, with installations spanning fixed-wing and rotary platforms used for aeromedical evacuation, as well as search and rescue and disaster response.
This alignment links board leadership experience with an established operational segment of the business.
