Recce Pharmaceuticals (ASX:RCE) receives Vietnamese patent grant for RECCE® anti infectives

Recce Pharmaceuticals has received formal confirmation that the Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam (IP Viet Nam) has granted a Family 4 patent for the company’s RECCE® anti infectives, covering RECCE® 327 (R327) and RECCE® 529 (R529).

The patent expires in 2041. This is the company’s eighth Family 4 patent, alongside Australia, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan and Brazil.

Recce Pharmaceuticals is developing a New Class of Synthetic Anti Infectives designed to address antibiotic resistant superbugs.

The company’s anti infective pipeline includes three patented, broad spectrum, synthetic polymer anti infectives: RECCE® 327 (R327), RECCE® 435 (R435) and RECCE® 529 (R529).

The Vietnamese patent claims relate to R327 and R529, including the process for preparation of RECCE® anti infectives and the use of R327/R529 for the treatment of disease, particularly bacterial infections, viral infections and more.

The company stated that the claims further validate RECCE® anti infectives from studies in Acute Bacterial Skin and Skin Structure Infections (ABSSSI), Diabetic Foot Infections (DFI), Burn Wounds, Lung Infections including Ventilator Associated Pneumonia and Hospital Acquired Pneumonia, Urinary Tract Infections, Gonorrhoea, Influenza and SARS CoV 2.

The patent also includes administration methods by oral, inhalation, transdermal delivery or injection into the bloodstream, intramuscular and/or intravenous routes.

The company stated that administration may also be supplied as an aerosol, gel, topical foam or ointment, or impregnated into a dressing for application to skin or mucous membranes for transdermal or transmucosal delivery.

The latest patent grant adds to Recce’s intellectual property portfolio, which the company states is focused on protection in strategically important antibiotic markets.

Vietnam represents one of the company’s Family 4 patent jurisdictions, with further Patent Cooperation Treaty submissions in respective stages of review or allowed.

Recce Pharmaceuticals Chief Executive Officer James Graham said,

“We welcome the grant of this patent by the Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam, which further strengthens Recce’s global intellectual property portfolio and expands our intellectual property footprint across Southeast Asia.”

The company stated that Vietnam’s pharmaceutical market is a rapidly expanding sector in Southeast Asia, valued at approximately USD $7 to $8 billion and projected to surpass USD $10 to $16 billion by 2026.

The announcement also outlined antimicrobial resistance challenges in Vietnam, including reported resistance rates of 71% for Penicillin and 92% for Erythromycin, along with reported multidrug resistance rates from hospitals in southern Vietnam of 74.6% for Escherichia coli, approximately 60% for Klebsiella pneumoniae and 90% for Acinetobacter baumannii.

Recce’s anti infective pipeline includes R327 as an intravenous and topical therapy being developed for the treatment of serious and potentially life threatening infections due to Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria, including their superbug forms, R435 as an orally administered therapy for bacterial infections, and R529 for viral infections.

The company stated that the World Health Organization added R327, R435 and R529 to its list of antibacterial products in clinical development for priority pathogens.

The Vietnamese patent grant extends Recce Pharmaceuticals’ Family 4 patent coverage for RECCE® 327 and RECCE® 529, with the patent expiry date in 2041.
