Lord Resources (ASX:LRD) logs visible copper zone at Ilgarari
September 17, 2025Lord Resources (ASX:LRD) has delivered a promising early outcome from drilling at its Ilgarari Copper Project in Western Australia, with geologists logging more than 20 metres of visible copper mineralisation.
While assays are pending, the discovery lends weight to the view that Ilgarari could host a significant supergene-enriched system lying above primary sulphide mineralisation.
Highlights
-
20.2 metres of copper minerals logged in hole 25IRC006D from 158.5m to 178.7m, including chalcocite and native copper
-
Step-out position, sitting ~60m down-dip and 100m along strike from historic copper hits
-
Primary mineralisation also observed in additional holes, including chalcopyrite zones up to 5% rock volume
-
First assay results expected in October, with further drilling under consideration
-
Project benefits from highway access, located 110 km south of Newman and north of the former DeGrussa mine
Building a geological case
The Ilgarari program is still at an early stage, yet the logged mineralisation marks a meaningful advance on previous work.
Importantly, the 25IRC006D interval was drilled away from historic intercepts, confirming mineralisation persists both at depth and along strike.
Chalcocite, a secondary copper sulphide, and native copper veinlets were observed in core samples, indicating supergene enrichment processes above deeper sulphide zones.
Further encouragement came from two other holes co-funded under the WA Government’s Exploration Incentive Scheme, where chalcopyrite was intersected in breccia zones.
The program, spanning 2,280 metres of RC drilling and more than 1,700 metres of diamond tails to date, remains ongoing with four holes still to be completed.
Lord Resources Exploration Manager, Georgina Clark, described the visual results as
“an exciting and highly encouraging start to our much-anticipated drilling program.” She added:
“The presence of chalcocite and native copper strongly supports our geological model and highlights the potential for a high-grade zone at Ilgarari.”
Assay results due in October will provide the first quantitative measure of copper grades and confirm whether the logged mineralisation carries through to economic levels.
In the meantime, Lord Resources is considering extending the current drill program, a decision likely to be informed by the laboratory results.
Situated on a granted exploration licence with an earn-in right to 80% of the sulphide mineral rights, Ilgarari benefits from proximity to infrastructure and a rich history of copper production.
While visual estimates cannot substitute for assays, the logged intercepts place the project firmly in the frame as Lord seeks to build a portfolio of “future facing” metals projects across Western Australia.
