Kingsland Minerals (ASX:KNG) achieves 99.97% battery-grade graphite at Leliyn Project

Kingsland Minerals Limited (ASX:KNG) has delivered a breakthrough at its flagship Leliyn Graphite Project in the Northern Territory, with metallurgical testwork producing purified spherical graphite (PSG) of up to 99.97 percent purity.

The achievement surpasses the 99.95 percent threshold required for battery anode material and marks a major milestone in positioning Leliyn as a future supplier of Australian made spherical graphite for electric vehicles and renewable energy storage.

In this Q&A, Managing Director Richard Maddocks addresses key investor questions on the significance of the results, the processing methods used, the partnership with Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners, the Scoping Study, and the project’s long-term supply potential.

How significant are the 99.97 percent purified spherical graphite results?

The results confirm that Leliyn graphite can be refined to battery-grade standards and beyond, which is crucial for entry into the global lithium ion battery market.

The concentrate began with a grade of 93.4 percent, and through purification it reached 99.97 percent.

Achieving this level of purity at the first attempt demonstrates the quality of the Leliyn deposit and validates its potential as a source of high-value battery materials.

“These are clearly exceptional results which show our strategy to be a leading graphite provider to the EV and renewable energy sectors is well on track.”

What processing methods were used to achieve these results?

Two alkaline bake methods were tested, one at 250 degrees Celsius and another at 500 degrees Celsius.

The lower temperature test produced 99.96 percent graphite, already above the minimum benchmark, and when both were treated with a dilute acid wash the grades were raised further, peaking at 99.97 percent.

The material was then micronised to around 17 microns and spheronised into rounded spheres, which is the industry standard for anode-ready spherical graphite.

The testwork, conducted by ProGraphite GmbH in Germany, demonstrated that Leliyn graphite concentrate can be successfully processed through all required stages.

“To obtain results as good as these on our first attempt is exceptional.”

What is the role of Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners in this project?

Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners is the company’s off take partner and is progressing plans for a downstream processing facility in Darwin.

Leliyn samples will be supplied for testing to help shape the parameters of that facility, which will be dedicated to producing purified spherical graphite.

This partnership provides a direct pathway from mine to local processing, supporting the creation of a vertically integrated Australian supply chain and delivering logistic advantages through proximity to port and export channels.

“Now we know we can produce a final product, we will focus on optimising the whole process chain to produce superior graphite concentrate for the battery anode market.”

To advance this work, core drilling to generate additional metallurgical samples is scheduled for completion in the December 2025 quarter.

What is the current status of the Leliyn Scoping Study?

The Scoping Study is on track for completion in September 2025 and will be the first economic and technical assessment of the project.

It will integrate the metallurgical testwork, mine planning, process design, infrastructure, and logistics to provide a clear view of the project’s scale and potential.

This study will set the framework for advancing Leliyn into the next stage of development and give investors greater clarity on the commercial pathway.

How large is the Leliyn Graphite Project resource and what does it mean for long term supply potential?

Leliyn contains an Inferred Mineral Resource of 194.6 million tonnes at 7.3 percent total graphitic carbon, equating to 14.2 million tonnes of contained graphite. This makes it one of the largest deposits of its kind in Australia.

The scale of the resource supports long term supply into the battery anode market, and when combined with the confirmed ability to reach 99.97 percent purity, it provides a solid base for Kingsland’s strategy to establish Leliyn as a long-term source of Australian made spherical graphite.

While further drilling is required to upgrade the classification, the resource already provides the size and grade necessary to underpin future development.

Strong foundations for the next phase

With testwork confirming the ability to produce purified spherical graphite at 99.97 percent purity, the Leliyn Graphite Project has taken a decisive step forward.

Backed by a resource of 194.6 million tonnes containing 14.2 million tonnes of graphite and supported by the partnership with Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners, Kingsland Minerals is progressing toward the completion of its Scoping Study in September 2025 and moving closer to defining a clear commercial pathway.

Richard Maddocks, Managing Director of Kingsland Minerals Limited, highlights that these results provide the technical foundation needed to advance Leliyn as a long-term supplier of spherical graphite to the global battery anode market.
