Kaoko Metals Limited (ASX:KAO) reports new surface copper discoveries at Chalkos Project, Namibia
Kaoko Metals Limited has reported the discovery of outcropping copper mineralisation at the newly named Bootless prospect during maiden fieldwork at its Chalkos Copper Silver Project in Namibia.
The Bootless prospect is located within a previously untested approximately 2.2 kilometre corridor between the Otniel and Donkey Hill prospects, with fieldwork also identifying extensions of surface copper mineralisation at both Otniel and Donkey Hill.
Assay results from new sites are expected in 6 to 8 weeks and maiden diamond drilling is scheduled to commence in approximately 5 weeks.
Highlights
Outcropping visible copper mineralisation identified at the newly named Bootless prospect
Bootless located within an approximately 2.2 kilometre corridor between Otniel and Donkey Hill prospects
Otniel mineralisation extended up to 200 metres, increasing mapped footprint to more than 600 metres across multiple trends
Donkey Hill mineralisation extended approximately 60 metres at Donkey Hill East, increasing mapped footprint to more than 800 metres across three trends
Mineralisation includes chalcocite, malachite, azurite and chrysocolla in vein and disseminated styles
Assay results expected in 6 to 8 weeks, maiden diamond drilling scheduled to commence in approximately 5 weeks
The Bootless prospect was identified during reconnaissance fieldwork and is located approximately 600 metres west of Otniel and approximately 2 kilometres south of Donkey Hill.
Outcropping copper mineralisation has been observed within quartz carbonate veins and disseminated zones within dolomitised wall rocks, with mineralisation including secondary copper oxide minerals such as chrysocolla, malachite and azurite.
At Otniel, geological mapping and reconnaissance have identified visible copper mineralisation extending up to 200 metres beyond previously recognised mineralised areas, increasing the mapped surface expression to approximately 600 metres along strike.
Rock chip samples have been collected from a newly identified hanging wall position above the main trend, with mineralisation including chalcocite, malachite, minor azurite and copper silicates hosted within quartzite units.
At Donkey Hill, geological mapping has identified visible copper mineralisation extending approximately 60 metres beyond Donkey Hill East across three north south trending mineralised zones.
The total mapped surface expression now exceeds 800 metres, with mineralisation including malachite, chalcocite and azurite hosted within quartzite and dolomite units.
Kaoko Metals Managing Director Gerard O’Donovan stated:
“Discovering a new zone of outcropping copper mineralisation so early in our maiden fieldwork campaign is a very exciting development for Kaoko. This reinforces the enormous prospectivity of our large land package and particularly the ground which sits between the high-grade Donkey Hill and Otniel prospects, which are located ~2.2km apart.”
Assay results from rock chip samples are expected in approximately 6 to 8 weeks, with maiden diamond drilling at Chalkos scheduled to commence in approximately 5 weeks.
Kaoko Metals has also outlined next steps including finalisation of drilling contractor selection, site preparation for drilling, commencement of maiden diamond drilling, and a regional geochemical sampling program across Karibib.
