Kaoko Metals (ASX:KAO) records broad visible copper mineralisation at Chalkos

Kaoko Metals has completed DDOT001 and DDOT002 at the Otniel Prospect within its Chalkos Copper-Silver Project in Namibia, with visual logging recording broad, shallow zones of disseminated copper mineralisation across multiple lithological and structural intervals.

Highlights

DDOT001 and DDOT002 were collared from a common drill pad to assess the distribution and continuity of copper mineralisation away from known outcropping mineralisation at Otniel.

DDOT001 was completed to 175.17m at a dip of -55°, while DDOT002 reached 184m at a dip of -65°.

In DDOT002, the broader mineralised zone comprised 3 intervals of varying intensity, with malachite and cuprite dominating from 36.65m to 59.3m and the strongest visible mineralisation recorded in either completed hole occurring from 59.3m to 91.66m.

Within the stronger section, visual estimates included chalcocite at 5% to 8%, malachite at 5% to 8% and cuprite generally at 1% to 3%.

The interval from 86.4m to 91.66m contained approximately 4% native copper together with malachite and other copper minerals.

A further 5.24m interval from 91.66m to 96.90m completed the broader zone, while lower grade copper mineralisation was observed from 107.7m to 125.58m.

DDOT001 contained visible copper mineralisation across a varied sequence of quartzite, conglomerate and siltstone.

Increased mineralisation was recorded across 17.2m from 58.37m to 75.57m, where malachite locally reached 5% and chalcocite reached approximately 4%.

Additional mineralisation in DDOT001 included a separate 6.51m interval from 102.87m to 109.38m and a 37.37m interval from 125.97m to 163.34m.

The deeper interval contained recurring cuprite, locally up to approximately 2%, together with malachite and minor chalcocite.

Visible copper mineralisation was recorded across more than 120m from its initial to final occurrence in the hole.

Zones of mylonitisation were recorded from 59m to 75m in DDOT002 and from 68m to 87m in DDOT001, coinciding with, or occurring immediately adjacent to, the strongest visible mineralisation.

Open fractures, joints and quartz veining were also recorded. Kaoko states that this distribution provides early evidence that structural controls have influenced copper deposition at Otniel.

Kaoko Metals Managing Director Gerard O’Donovan said:

“Samples from DDOT001 and DDOT002 are being prepared for dispatch to the laboratory, with assay results expected in 4 to 6 weeks. Drilling is continuing at Otniel to follow up on these initial intersections, before the rig moves to test our other high-priority target at Donkey Hill within the broader Chalkos Project.”

Kaoko holds 100% ownership of Chalkos, covered by EPL 7608 and EPL 7943, with formal renewal applications submitted for both tenements for an additional 2 year term and environmental clearance certificates covering both licences valid until 1 July 2027.

DDOT003 is in progress and is designed to test continuity along strike. DDOT004 and DDOT005 are planned to test extensions west and south respectively.

Kaoko’s immediate work program also includes continued project wide field programs at Chalkos, potential mobilisation of an additional diamond rig and commencement of Phase 2 of the Karibib site wide geochemical campaign.
