Galena (ASX:G1A) keep expanding at Abra

Days after capping off an updated Mineral Resource Estimate for the Abra Mine, Galena Mining have returned multiple top-flight lead and silver assays as it continues to ramp up production at the first mine in the highly prospective Edmund Sedimentary Basin in the West Australian Gascoyne.

The revised Abra MRE of 33.4Mt at 7.1% Pb and 17g/t Ag at a 5% Pb cut-off grade had already supported long-term mining plans, and these latest results continue to bolster Galena’s aim to keep converting and extending resources while improving production.

Significant results:

Galena Managing Director Tony James said these strong results had complemented its mining plans over the next year.

“Geologically they show the importance of the interface between the Core and Apron zones and the potential extension of the deposit to the Northeast. As mining progresses in these areas on multiple fronts and levels, it will generate enormous opportunity for us as we continue improving our production profile.”

Expanding at Abra

The high-grade lead-silver mine was established as a 60:40 joint venture with Japan’s largest lead producer Toho Zinc to bring first mining operations to the Edmund Basin and establish a new West Australian base and precious metals mining region.

The JV marked the milestone production of first concentrate early this year, and as mining areas open, grades will continue to improve, and the increased confidence in its ore operations over the next year have Galena eyeing off more targets to hit with the drill.

Drilling continues over Abra to confirm extensions of both Apron and Core mineralisation to the northeast and keep building the resource, while planning has begun to drill into the Abra North and Abra Copper-Gold targets below existing mineralisation.

Galena shipped its second batch of concentrate just last month and see many more yet to depart as it keeps expanding its scope of production.
