Critical Resources (ASX:CRR) expands Mavis Lake footprint in Ontario lithium heartland
November 4, 2025Critical Resources has made a decisive move to strengthen its foothold in one of Canada’s most prospective lithium regions, staking 438 new claim cells covering roughly 80 square kilometres at its Mavis Lake Lithium Project in northwestern Ontario.
The expansion takes the total project area to more than 400 square kilometres, consolidating the company’s position across key structural corridors that are prospective for lithium, gold and base metals.
Highlights
-
Additional 80 km² of claims secured through direct staking.
 -
Mavis Lake Project area now totals more than 400 km².
 -
New claims extend mineralised corridors prospective for lithium, gold and base metals.
 -
Previous exploration credits sufficient to maintain tenure for multiple years.
 -
Expansion completed at minimal cost, leveraging a countercyclical opportunity.

The latest acquisition, achieved through direct staking rather than purchase, represents a countercyclical expansion at a time of subdued lithium sentiment. It underscores Critical Resources’ strategy of positioning itself for the next market upturn while retaining exposure to multiple commodities.
The new tenements extend known mineralised structures within the Mavis Lake Project, which has already defined an inferred resource of 8 million tonnes at 1.07% lithium oxide, and hosts conditions favourable for both spodumene-bearing pegmatites and orogenic gold systems.
Managing Director Tim Wither described the move as both strategic and opportunistic.
“The countercyclical opportunity to stake these additional claims secures a dominant land position over highly prospective geology,” he said. “Mavis Lake stands as one of Ontario’s significant lithium assets, with scale potential, grade, and access to world-class transport and power infrastructure, positioning it to play a key role in North America’s lithium supply chain.”
The newly staked ground lies within the Eagle-Wabigoon-Manitou Greenstone Belt, a proven metallogenic province that hosts numerous lithium-bearing pegmatite fields and polymetallic systems.
Historical mapping and regional geophysics indicate the presence of extensive fault-bounded volcanic-sedimentary packages, many of which remain unexplored using modern techniques.
The geological context indicates strong discovery potential across zones aligned with known lithium mineralisation, while the countercyclical timing and cost-effective staking approach have delivered a meaningful uplift in exploration opportunity without the capital burden of traditional acquisitions.
The company’s prior exploration expenditure at Mavis Lake, which includes over 58,000 metres of drilling along with metallurgical, geophysical and environmental programs, provides sufficient assessment credits to keep the enlarged tenure in good standing for several years.
This ensures low holding costs and allows management to focus on value-adding exploration rather than administrative overheads.
The strategic intent is clear: to establish Mavis Lake as a large-scale, long-life lithium project capable of underpinning future supply into the North American electric vehicle and energy storage sectors.
By consolidating control over multiple structural corridors, Critical Resources is effectively positioning itself to delineate new discoveries and expand its existing resource base when market conditions improve.
While the company also holds base metals and gold-antimony projects in New South Wales and New Zealand, Mavis Lake remains the flagship asset and the centrepiece of its critical minerals portfolio.
The combination of scale, infrastructure access and geological prospectivity continues to make the project one of the more substantial lithium landholdings in Ontario.
In the broader industry context, the move highlights a trend among mid-tier explorers to consolidate key ground positions while valuations are low.
For investors tracking the North American lithium landscape, Critical Resources’ measured expansion at Mavis Lake signals a focus on disciplined growth and long-term positioning rather than short-term speculation.
