Cooper (ASX:CPM) extend copper-gold at Mt Isa East

Cooper Metals’ geochemical sampling has extended the copper-gold footprint of five prospects at its Mt Isa East Project in Queensland’s famed North West mineral province.

The prospects all sit within 10 kilometres of each other, allowing a maiden drill campaign bookmarked for next month to run the gauntlet across five key prospects.

Cooper Managing Director Ian Warland said that the Cooper team had completed thousands of pXRF soil samples and over fifty new rock chip samples in preparation for the drill.

“The geochemical sampling has been focussed on a range of geophysical, geochemical, and historical targets. The five prospects are within 5 to 10km of one another forming a convenient cluster, that allows for a single RC drill campaign to complete initial drill testing at each target,” Mr Warland said.

“All prospects show strong copper anomalism in favourable lithologies and structural settings,” he added.

“I look forward to commencing the drilling in September as part of our strategy to rapidly and effectively test our pipeline of high priority Cu-Au targets.”

The campaign is slated for around 12-holes for up to 1500 metres across the prospects, all cleared for heritage and regulatory approvals and ground access in progress for next month.

Exploration pipeline

Cooper also has its first diamond drilling program at the King Solomon prospect underway, expecting significant depth potential and essential data from three plunging shoots of higher-grade mineralisation encountered in last year’s RC drilling.

An independent prospectivity review over the Ardmore tenements has also recently circled 11 new priority copper-gold targets to add to the Cooper collection, bringing it more than 50 untested Mt Isa targets to hit with the drill.

The company plans around 5000 metres of RC scout drilling through the rest of the year as it begins tapping into some of its best prospects in an area the Queensland Government has highlighted as continuing a rich history as one of the most productive mineral provinces on earth.

“Mount Isa is the beating heart of the North West Minerals Province and copper has been king here ever since it was first discovered nearly 100 years ago.” – Queensland Resources Minister Scott Stewart.
